REPORTER :
Recall that quartiles divide the distribution into four equal parts.
Deciles are those values that divide the total frequency into 10
equal parts and percentile of grouped data is used to characterize
values according to the percentage below them.
The kth quartile, denoted by Qk, is computed as
follows:
The kth decile, denoted by Dk, is computed as follows:
And the kth percentile, denoted by Pk, is computed as follows:
Quartile for Grouped Data
• Example: Suppose we have the following data on the scores of 62
Grade 10 students in English arrange in a frequency distribution with a
class interval size of 5 as shown below:
Total: n=62
Calculate the first quartile (Q1).
Use the formula in solving the quartiles of grouped data.
Solving for Q1
Solution:
Decile for Grouped Data
The kth decile for grouped data denoted by Dk is computed
as follows:
Example:
The frequency distribution below shows the summative test
results in Mathematics of 40 students. Determine D6.
55 - 59 5 40 54.5
50 - 54 5 35 49.5
45 - 49 9 30 44.5
40 - 44 8 21 39.5
35 - 39 7 13 34.5
30 - 34 6 6 29.5
Solving for D6
Solution:

The percentile of grouped data is used to characterize values
according to the percentage below them.
