Music
Afro-Latin American music is a term that
refers to the fusion of African and Latin
American cultures through music. It
includes genres such as salsa, cumbia,
merengue, and bachata.
Where is Afro-Latin music from?
Afro Latinos include people who are from Cuba,
Puerto Rico, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and
other countries in Latin American and the
Caribbean. Each ethnic group has unique histories
of migration that shape their history in the United
States and their contribution to salsa music.
Popular music
* popular music literally means "music of the
populace.

*Developed in the 20th century, pop music is


generally comprised of music for entertainment of
large number of audience, whether on radio or in live
performance

• Music has always play an important role in the daily
lives of Africans. It can be for work, religion,
ceremonies, or even communication.

• For the African ceremonies, singing, dancing ,


clapping and beating of deums have essential roles even
in religious expressions and political events.

•The wide influence of African music spread through the


World. It permeated contemporary American, Latin
American and European Styles.
•African music is a result of collective cultural
and musical variety of more than 50 ethnic
divisions of the continent

•The organization of this vast continent is a


colonial legacy from European rule of different
nations up to the 19th century, enabling it to
immigration, and cultural diversity.

• In the particular subject of research are its


rhythmic structures and spiritual
characteristic that have led to the birth of jazz
forms.
Information about music of Africa
• Africa is a diverse continent with a rich musical heritage,
and there many different styles and genres of music that can
be found there. Some popular styles of music in Africa
include traditional rhythms, such as drumming and
percussion as well as contemporary styles like afrobeats and
highlife.
• one famous African musician is Fela Kuti, who was a
Nigerian multi-instrumentalist and bandleader. He was
known for his unique blend of traditional Yoruba music, jazz,
and funk, and his music often had a strong political message.
Another famous African musician is Angelique kidjo, who is
from Benin and known for her powerful voice and fusion of
traditional African rhythms with modern styles like pop and
rock.

and Senegal. It is a fusion of
traditional Yoruba music, jazz,
and Fuji with elements of funk,
soul and hip hop. Afrobeat is
characterized by its fast-paced
rhythm, energetic horn
sections, and socially
conscious lyrics. Afrobeats has
spread to other parts of the
world influencing artists and
musicians across different
genre.
2. Apala (Alpala)
Apala (also known as akpala)
is a genre of music that
originated in Nigeria
specially among the Yoruba
people. It is a traditional
form of music that is played
with a set of percussion
instruments, including the
drums, shakers and bells.
Apala music is characterized
by its fast-paced rhythm and
complex polyrhythms, and is
often accompanied by
chanting and singing.
3.Axe
•Axe is a genre of music that
originated in West Africa,
particularly in Nigeria and
Ghana. It is a fusion of
traditional African music
with elements of rock and
blues. Axe music is
characterized by its heavy
use of guitars, powerful
vocals and energetic
rhythms. The lyrics of axe

•marbi it is South
Africa three-cord
township music of the
1930s-1960s which
evolved into African
jazz. It is
characterized by
simple chords in
varying bamping
patterns with
respetitive harmony
over an extended
period of time to give
the dancers more time

• Traditional African music is rhythm-based, with the
heavy use of percussion instruments and a
polyrhythmic structure that uses multiple rhythms.
The importance of traditional music it's a part of
religious ceremonies, festivals, and social rituals.
The interesting part in traditional music is used for
social and ceremonial purposes, Traditional music
can help people understand a country better.
