Recycling

RECYCLING FACTS
Recycling facts:

Below shows some examples of what the energy saved by recycling everyday
object could do:

A computer could be powered for 25 minutes for every glass bottle recycled.

A television could be powered for 3 hours for every aluminium can recycled.

A 60 watt light bulb can be powered for 3 hours for every plastic bottle
recycled.

It takes 70% less power to produce recycled paper than producing it from
trees.
Recycling will help us to conserve the
environment.
• conserves energy.
• reduces air and water
pollution.
• reduces greenhouse
gases.
• conserves natural
resources

1. Aluminium
• Many cans are made of aluminium.
• Millions of pounds of aluminium is thrown away and
not recycled each year.
• Aluminium cans can be recycled and ready to use
again in 6 weeks.
2. Paper
• Approximately 24 trees are needed to produce 1
tonne of newspaper.
• To produce recycled paper produces 73% less air
pollution.
• Millions of tonnes of paper and cardboard are used
in the UK every year.
3. Glass
• The average family in the UK uses 500 glass bottles
and glass jars per year
• Glass is one of things that can be recycled and
used over and over again.
• Glass which is thrown away and ends up in a
landfill will never decompose.
4. Plastic
• Millions of plastic bottles are used every day in the
UK.
• Plastic can take up to 500 years to decompose.
• The use of plastics is increasing.
