 IMPORTANCE OF HAVING A GOOD INTRODUCTION

- We have already discussed about the introduction of a business letter


in Unit 1
- In addition to that, it is to give the reader a reason to want to know
more about what you are writing.
 Start with the introduction, follow up with a phone call, then few meetings,
lastly, make the sale

 CONTENT OF THE INTRODUCTION
- In this paragraph, explain why you are writing
- Give brief background information, your personal experience about the
person, service, product or company you want to introduce
- Focus the attention of the reader with a stimulating question, a
quotation from a well known, respected source or anecdote (narrative)
- It should contain a general statement or remark about the topic to put
the reader into context

 Your tone should be friendly to create a good impression of what you want to
say

 CONTENT OF THE BODY PARAGRAPH


- explain the reason for writing in details

- if you are applying for the job, say why you think you are the
best person for the job

- summarise your skills and experience


TYPES OF CONCLUSION

 1. Summary – summarise your reason for writing or summarise main points


from the body
2. Call to action – suggest readers to take action regarding the topic
3. Question – ask a question to make readers to think.
4. Answer - the thesis statement, revisiting

- summarise your reason for writing
- make clear what you want the recipient to do –call to action
- be strong and upbeat so the reader will want to meet you
- thank the person for the time taken
- include contact information
