Analyzing the job description and requirements:
identifying the keywords; fitting your
skills/competences/experience and personal qualities
into the profile of the candidate.

• CV (Brit. English)<(Latin curriculum vitae)/Résumé (Am.
English)

• Types:
1) Reverse-chronological: education + work experience +
skills
2) Functional: different sets of skills
3) Hybrid: reverse chronological + functional

• Tips:
 Adapt your CV to the requirements of the job you are
applying for;
 Write more than one version of your CV if you want to
apply for more than one type of job;
 Keep your CV concise: one page;
 Make it reader friendly and attractive: use bullet points, a
typeface such as TNR/Arial/Verdana, no less than 10pt,
spacing, bold/underlining/capitals;
 Save your CV as PDF.

•Drafting the content of your CV:
1) Personal details/Contact information:
- first name + last name;
- address;
- phone no;
- e-mail, LinkedIn, GitHub profile;
- photo (depending on the job);
- age, gender, marital status (only if required).

qualifications/skills/experience//your application/career goal

instruct, liaise, manage, mentor, monitor,
negotiate, organize, oversee, prepare,
recommend, reduce, research, represent,
solve, supervise, train etc.

5) Skills:
- computer skills (programming languages + levels of competence,
technical abilities etc.)
- language skills (native/first language/mother tongue, foreign
languages + levels of competence (CEFR) + copies of certificates
attached);
- personal skills (soft skills: organizational, time management,
leadership, presentation, communication skills, empathy + personal
qualities: diligence, determination, perseverance, assertiveness,
reliability etc. + arguments: Where have you acquired/developed
these skills or How can you prove you have these personal qualities);

6) Extracurricular activities: e.g. Volunteering
(What you do, where, what you have learnt?)
7) Leisure interests/Hobbies: spare time

building your own template.
II. WRITING A COVER LETTER
• Cover/Covering letter/letter of application/letter of intent (CL)

1) COVER LETTER STRUCTURE:


•PARAGRAPH 1: state the source of the job advertisement + reason why
you write the letter (passion for the field & competence to do the job)
•PARAGRAPHS 2 & 3: present your educational background,
qualifications, skills (hard & soft), experience (work/projects) and
personal qualities relevant to the position + examples/evidence that
support your statements. Focus on the needs of the employer NOT on the
benefits that come with the job.
•PARAGRAPH 4: show interest in attending a personal interview and
thank the employer for considering the letter.
II. WRITING A COVER LETTER
2) LETTER WRITING CONVENTIONS:
•Sender’s address (top right): no. of the street, name of the street,
city, postal code
•Date under sender’s address
•Recipient’s address (top left): Name + Surname (if known), position,
department, company, no. of the street, name of the street, city, postal
code
•Salutation and Closing:
•Dear + Mr./Mrs./Ms. Name & Surname >>> Yours sincerely/Best
regards
•Dear + Madam/Sir >>> Yours faithfully/truly/Best regards
