Student’s Perceptions Towards the Quality of
Online Education: A Qualitative Approach

Yi Yang
Linda F. Cornelius
Mississippi State University
TYPE OF RESEARCH
• Phenomenological Research - The research is
phenomenological because the main goal of the
research is to know the perception of students
towards the quality of online education. It’s a
phenomenological research because it explains the
nature of online education through the way students
experience it.
RESEARCH DESIGN

• The design was qualitative in nature using

interviews, observation, and documents to
explain the quality of online education through
the experiences of students
METHODOLOGY
The study used triangulation method each participant engages in two
interviews one structured and unstructured ,two observations are carried out
each were approximately a 60 min session ,the observation is being done to
the place where the participants usually completed their online coursework.
• Documents are collected from all participants ,these documents are
printouts and other information to substantiate the information that was
already collected from the interviews and observation.
RESULT
• While receiving online education participants gained positive and negative
experiences. Flexibility of class participation time and self-paced study, cost-
effectiveness of online class, electronic research availability, well-designed
course layout, ease connection of the Internet, easy navigation of the online
class interface, and familiarity with the instructor contributed to participants’
positive experiences. Factors that contributed to students’ negative experiences
were: delayed feedback from the instructor; unavailable technical support from
the instructor, lack of self-regulation and selfmotivation, sense of isolation,
monotonous instructional methods, and poorly-designed course content.

QUALITATIVE RESEARCH
A Qualitative Study of the Impact of
Experiences of Students With Parents as
their Principal,Teacher,or Coach
• Lori Lynn Brownlee-Brewton
• Gardner-Webb University
TYPE OF RESEARCH
• Phenomenological research - A phenomenological research
because it talks about the experiences of students with their
parents as their principal, teacher or coach. The study ceases to
explain the students emotional and social they receive and the
forms of pressure they receive.
RESEARCH DESIGN
The research design used in this study is a case study
design. The study investigates the experiences and
perspectives of who had a parent as their principal,
teacher, or coach.
METHODOLOGY
• The methodology used is a phenomenological. The study aimed to explore the perceptions of students
who had parents serving as their principal, teacher, or coach.
• The data was gathered using semi-structured interviews who had experienced having a parent as their
principal, teacher, or coach. The interviews were conducted in a conversational style, allowing the
participants to share their experiences and perspectives freely. The interviews were audio-recorded and
transcribed verbatim for analysis. Source: Dissertation document.
• -The data was then analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. It involves the systematic analysis of
data to identify themes or patterns that emerge from the data. The themes are then organized into a
coherent framework that helps to provide a deeper understanding of the data
• -transcribed verbatim –This means that the researcher transcribed every word of the interview, including
any pauses, interjections, and nonverbal sounds, to ensure that the data was as accurate as possible
RESULT
• The research aims to gauge the extent of pressures, social and emotional
impacts, and the advantages or disadvantages felt by individuals in this
situation. The study emphasizes the importance of students, including
those with parents in positions of authority, experiencing a sense of
belonging with their peers and teachers at school. The research paper was
awarded the Doctor of Education (EdD) degree from Gardner-Webb
University in Spring 2020. It is available under a Creative Commons
License and is included in the Educational Administration and
