1 INTRODUCTION
This study aims to illuminate the profound impact of the
COVID-19 pandemic on college students. By quantifying
the causal effects across various student outcomes and
expectations, we seek to address critical gaps in
understanding. Specifically, we analyze enrollment and
graduation decisions, academic performance, major
choice, study habits, social behaviors, remote learning
experiences, current labor market participation, and
future employment expectations.
1 INTRODUCTION
The significance of this research lies in its potential to
provide valuable insights into the multifaceted effects of
the pandemic on college students' lives. By examining
how these effects differ along existing socioeconomic
divides, we can identify whether the pandemic has
exacerbated pre-existing inequalities in higher
education. Furthermore, by delving into the mechanisms
behind these heterogeneous effects, we aim to shed
light on the role of individual-level financial and health
shocks in shaping academic decisions and labor market
expectations.
1 INTRODUCTION
Through a survey conducted at Arizona State University,
one of the largest public institutions in the United States,
we capture students' experiences and expectations
during the pandemic. By comparing these to
counterfactual outcomes in the absence of the outbreak,
we can directly analyze how students perceive the
impact of COVID-19 on their current and future
trajectories. This approach allows us to explore the
subjective treatment effects of the pandemic on various
aspects of student life.
