ACTIVITY 1: WEATHER
WEATHER LANG.
Weather: Types,
Elements, and
Instruments
Lesson
Objectives
a) define weather,
b) identify the types and elements of the weather,
c) differentiate the instruments used to measure the
weather, and
d) give the importance of weather recording
WEATHER
• Mixture of day-to-day conditions
of an atmosphere

• A natural phenomenon that

maintains equilibrium in the
atmosphere.
TYPES OF WEATHER

ELEMENTS OF
WEATHER
measurement of the amount
of kinetic energy present in
TEMPERATURE the air, which manifests itself
physically through the
experience of heat or cold.
Wind velocity The movement of air
and direction (wind) is one of the
main driving forces of
weather
Amount of water
Humidity
vapor that is present in
the atmosphere at any
specific time.
The result of the
AIR PRESSURE pressure created by the
weight of the air in the
Earth's atmosphere.
Water in all its different states,
which formed after
PRECIPITATION condensation turned water
vapor into its solid form, which
falls to the ground after it
becomes too heavy to stay
suspended in the air.
Measurement of the
VISIBILITY degree through which an
object can be observed
over a certain distance.
Water droplets or water in
different states (like ice and
CLOUDS snow crystals), formed after
water vapor reached
condensation level and could
no longer remain in gaseous
form.
SUNSHINE The length of time the
DURATION
Earth's surface is
directly exposed to
solar radiation.
Instruments Used to
Measure Weather
Anemometer

An instrument that
measures the wind
speed.
WIND VANE

It tells the direction of

the wind.
THERMOMETER

It measures the air

temperature.
HYGROMETER

An instrument to
measure the humidity
of the air.
RAIN GAUGE
It measures the amount
of rain falling over
some time.
WEATHER
BALLOON
It measures the
weather conditions
high up in the
atmosphere.
WEATHER
SATELLITES
It captures photographs to
track large-scale air motions
taking place over the Earth’s
surface from space.
BAROMETER
Used by meteorologists to
measure air pressure.
WEATHER
MAPS
It shows the
atmospheric conditions
over a large portion of
the Earth’s surface.
Importance of Weather
Recording
The weather recording helps people
make important decisions about various
aspects of their day and their future
activities.
Weather conditions can help people
ascertain minor things.
Meteorologists are now able to warn
people about bad weather that is
approaching and that could have
dangerous or disastrous consequences.
Estimating the weather can aid people,
businesses, farmers, and transport systems
and provide warning/ alerting systems.
It is also important in determining an area's
climate.

Activity 3: Door of
revelation
If our country will be given a chance to have
another type of weather, what will you choose?
Create your wind vane
using the available
materials at your home.
ASSIGNMENT Take pictures before,
during, and after you
made your output. (15
points)
Wherever you go, no matter what the weather,
always bring your own sunshine.
