in the whirlwind of senior high school life, where students juggle leaming with different
academic challenges and concerns on their studies is mquisitively to determine the factors
that inspire them to accept and succeed on all these circumstances. Amidet stressors like
deadlines and exams, addressing students well-being is crucial. Exploring coping
mechanisms for academic stress is essential to ensure their overall health and happiness it is
evident that academic stress can affect students well-being, underscoring the need to offer
support and resources to help them manage these challenges effectively.
Literature Foundation
According to the research conducted by Birlesik
Dunya (2020), academic stress is a mental state
where the students suffer from the anticipated
challenges or even the fear of the possibility of
failure academically. The academic stress shows in
many aspects in the students environment such as
school-related work, family-related problems or
with their peers and financial problems. Which in
turn, greatly affects the students both physically
and mentally.
"Coping is defined as the thoughts and behaviors
mobilized to manage internal and external stressful
situations. It is a term used distinctively for
conscious and voluntary mobilization of acts,
different from 'defense mechanisms' that are
subconscious or unconscious adaptive responses,
both of which aim to reduce or tolerate stress."
(Algorani and Gupta, 2023).
Seriousness of the Problem
An article from Q Aina and P Hermilia Wijayati states that, stress has been
one of the most important topics in academic issues. There are many
sources of academic stress and the way of students cope the stress may
differ. Academic stress has a negative physiological and social impact on
students and may affect their learning and overall performance.
Understanding prevalence, contributing factors, and coping strategies will
facilitate organizing effective counseling strategies to facilitate students'
development and academic and professional success,adaptive responses,
both of which aim to reduce or tolerate stress." (Algorani and Gupta,
2023).
Setting of the Problem
Don Antonio Lee Chi Uan Integrated School (DALCUIS) is a
public school in Bacolor Pampanga, providing senior high
school education. Due to the expected acquisition of different
skills, the lessons are designed to elicit higher-order thinking
skills among senior high school students, which they are
expected to use in their future endeavor. With diversity and
different abilities, some students find it challenging to cope up
with the tasks required to them
General objective

The primary aim of this study is to


determine the coping mechanisms for
academic stress of senior high school
students. The overarching goal of
investigating its impact on their educational
performance through research findings may
have to provide or develop programs to
assist students further on strategies to
academic stress management and academic
improvement.
General Purposes
This study aims to find and explore ways of managing
and coping the educational challenges that senior high
school students are experiencing, which may help and
lead them to finish high school.
Statement of the Problem
The overall objective of this phenomenological study is to
determine the coping mechanisms of senior high school
students of Don Antonio Lee Chi Uan Integrated School
towards academic stress for the school year 2023-2024,
The results will guide the implementation of an
intervention initiative. Here, coping on stress refers to the
strategies and behaviors that people use to manage and
reduce the mental and emotional stress associated with
their academic responsibilities.
The research analysis is guided by the following questions:

1. What coping mechanisms do students commonly employ to deal with stress?

2. How do individual differences such as personality traits and social support network
influences of coping mechanisms utilized by students to deal with academic stress?

3. How do external factors such as familial expectations, financial pressures, and


extracurricular commitments intersect with academic stress, and what coping strategies do
students develop to navigate these complex challenges?
Significance of the Study
The findings of the study focus on the
efficacy of students' coping mechanisms in
the classroom to achieve better academic
performance. The study identified various
coping strategies used by senior high school
students to address academic challenges
To the students, the findings may serve an source of
guidance and inspiration, providing projectile insights
into effective coping strategies for aver coming
academic obstacles. By learning and applying there
Strategies, students may enhance their ability to
manage classroom stress, leading to improved
academic performance.

This study is focused on exploring

To the school administrators, this could
be a tool that has potential to give
valuable perspectives for enhancing the
way they manage, oversee, stress, and
prioritize students' mental well being
through developing intervention program
In this study, the students' academic performance refers to the
observed abilities of the students to cope with academic stress.

pact that students in this school are currently experiencing this circumstances
and employ certain coping mechanisms for academic stress. Additionally, it
provide realms a convenient and suitable setting for researchers in the
educational.

Specifically, this is only attentive to students who have experienced or are


currently experiencing this circumstance and display strategies on how they
cope with the academic stress that is prevalent among senior high school
students.

sleeping, gaming, watching shows/movies, exercising. and listening
to music. students' effective stress management strategies include
staying calm, managing time, analyzing problems, and taking
breaks.

students. Despite these challenges, many students
demonstrate strong time management skills,

strategies to manage academic stress, including time management.

the researchers also amend the Future researcher to conduct further
research to etamine the coping mechanisms of students for their
academic Stress. It is also suggested that a comparable study be
conducted with different schools and with a bigger sample size, as this
one contained to students at Study just small number of Senior High
School Don Antonio Lee Chi uan Integrated School.
In order to get more data, it is recommended to
increase of open-ended questions. This research
increase the may provide valuable insights into the
impact of academic stress to students guiding the
development of more effective prevention and
intervention strategies.
