neighbor Portugal.
Language spoken in Spain
• The official language of Spain is Spanish (or rather Castilian or Castellano) and is
understood everywhere in the country. More often than not, the people of Spain
refer to their language as Castellano rather than español because the latter can be
any other language spoken in the country.
What do the colors on the Flag of
Spain really represent ?
• The colors on the flag are red and yellow, which are the traditional colors of old Spanish
kingdoms
• The colors represent unity and strength, courage and passion, hope, loyalty, and justice.
• Some legends also associate yellow with the sun and red with the wars of the Spanish
people.

symbolize the monarchy and the Spanish exploration

beaver fur.
• Alpargata: a type of espadrille shoe with a canvas upper and a rope sole.
National animal of Spain
• The bull is the national animal of Spain—a truly symbolic figure in
Spanish culture. As an emblem of the nation and the Spanish people,
you'll find the strong, black bull on roadside signs. Bullfighting is also
a tradition in Spain, and thus the bull is celebrated in many traditional
Spanish celebrations and festivals, such as the Festival of San Fermín,
held each summer in Pamplona.
National food of Spain
• Paella is a popular Spanish rice dish that includes meat, vegetables,
and seafood. saffron is typically one of the main ingredients. This
exotic dish originated in the city of Valencia and is said to be a blend
of Roman and Arabian cuisine, which were the two prominent cultures
of early Spain. Spaniards traditionally cooked Paella in a special pan
over an open fire.

• The red carnation is known as el clavel, la flor de España (the flower of Spain). In
Spain, the national flower grows in the red soil of the Spanish Mediterranean.
However, these flowering plants in their pink, yellow, green, rose, red, and purple
are now widely grown around the world.

your region. Carnations grown outdoors prefer their native southern areas and
Mediterranean climates with lots of sunshine.
