Indus plain

Definition of Indus Plain

The Indus valley Plain is a flat landform in Pakistan,


built up over centuries by sediment. Most of it lies
within the PUNJAB and SINDH province. The plain
formed by the Indus River and its tributaries.
The plain is extensively farmed for wheat, rice
sugarcane and Cotton.

 The narrow strip of land on both side of rivers
 It is till 15 km from river.
 It is also called Bet or Khaddar .
 It is inundated almost every year
 Many channels are taken from it that are rich in ailluvium
 Active flood plain is not present around the river with low volume of water

 It is only flooded when there is heavy rain(monsoon).

 Delta is often triangle or fan shaped structure with main distrubutries branching out from
main river

 When river Indus reaches Arabian sea its speed is low which causes deposition of Alluvial
which makes distributries
 Sea water is often filled in these distributries
 It has low population
 Exposed to sea waves
 Mangroves are grown
Cuestas in Lower Indus plain

 These are ridges made up of limestone


 It has steep slope on one side and gentle slope on other side
 Rohri cuestas, (80 m) height 48 km long ,Gango Takar cuestas near Hyderabad
 We can construct barrages here
