Economically
-China has a very high level of territorial, trade, and
economic relations with the Philippines.
-China continues to be an important source of tourists for
the Philippines.

● Philippines-China relations have lately been dominated by
the territorial disputes in the West Philippine Sea, Bilateral
ties took a downturn when the Philippine government filed
an arbitration case against China under the United
National Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in
January 2013 challenging the legality of China’s nine-dash
line claim over the contested waters.

The trade with China was the beginning of a major
influence and contribution within the Filipino culture.

One major influence that the Chinese contributed within the


culture was culinary arts.

The Filipino language incorporates around 1,500 Chinese words,


reflecting linguistic influence.

Buddhism is practiced by 0.04% of the Philippine population,


primarily within the Japanese-Filipino community.
Some culinary techniques that the Filipinos were taught include
sauted dishes, rice cakes and noodle dishes (like Pancit).

The Chinese influence on Philippine culture is seen in how the


under nuclear family lives in lose proximity to each other, even if
the children are adults and have families of their own.

Chinese pottery, ceramics, and metal vessels have left a lasting


mark on Filipino art and culture, showcasing the historical
presence of Chinese influence.

Chinese mestizos played a significant role in forming
the middle class, in the agitation for reforms, in the
1898 revolution and the formation of what is now
known as the Filipino nationality.
