Hyundai / Kia Specifics

 Hyundai / Kia is one of the OEM in automotive industry.

 Hyundai/Kia is a lenient customer compared to others, such as Volvo

and BMW.

 We can easily obtain a data approval from the customer Hyundai / kia.

 In this detailed session, let us review all the criteria's followed by our
customer Hyundai / Kia.

Hyundai / Kia Specifics
We must check the following criteria's while submitting a data to Hyundai / Kia.

What to check:

 ID / Version Management
 Description and Part / Item No.
 Deviation between measured weight and calculated weight
 Preliminary MDS
 Ranged Values
 Polymeric part marking
 Basic substances
 Heavy Metals and their Application
 Direct purchasing parts

ID / Version Management

 The same ID should be used for the same customer part number.

 Previously, they strictly followed the ID/Version, but nowadays they are
accepting submissions even with different IDs for already submitted
customer part numbers

 Hyundai/KIA comes under Parent ID [71404]. So, Once we submitted our

data to Hyundai [71405]. We can’t use the same ID/Version to submit the
data to Kia[71406]. For that we need to update the version.

Part Description
 The part name should be 'Descriptive,
 No default names [Copy_ or Component_] in the data.

Part / Item No
The HMC/KIA part number format is: XXXXX-XXXXX.
 format: 5 digits + "-" + 5 digits.
 For example: 97701-G6001

 Color codes can be added additionally in some cases.

 For example: 97950-DR000-YGU."

Supplier Code
The supplier code is called "Vaatz (Value-Advanced-Automotive-Trade-Zone)
code“
 Format: Alphanumeric 4 digit
Ex: KM54, S009

Deviation between measured weight and
calculated weight
 The value entered in the field Measured Weight per Item is the stated
weight of the component.

 The Calculated Weight per Item is provided by the IMDS system

 The deviation must not exceed a certain value. If it exceeds this threshold, a
warning will be generated in the MDS Check.

Company Confidential 7
Preliminary MDS

 HMC/KIA does not utilize 'Preliminary MDS' and therefore it should

uncheck. (Generally, its rejected by all OEM)

 Preliminary MDS refers to MDS created before the detailed development

stage for the purpose of calculating recyclability. Typically, it lacks detailed
information on chemical composition

Ranged values
 Allowable ranges for components, semi-components/materials, and basic
substances should adhere to the limits specified in the IMDS system.

 Weight or content can be selectively inputted with options such as 'Range,'

'Fix,' or 'Rest.' When choosing 'Range,' the allowable range values specified in
'IMDS Recommendation 001' should be applied."

Company Confidential 8
Polymeric part marking

 When the materials composing a component fall under material classification 5.x,
material marking information should be included in the component details.
 This entry is mandatory if the component contains:

 More than 100g of polymeric materials classified as 5.1.x, 5.4.x, and 5.5.x.

 More than 200g of polymeric materials classified as 5.2 and 5.3."

Company Confidential 9
Basic Substance information
Process chemicals
 Process chemicals that are not present in the end material/part must not be
reported

 Any of the following 3 options must be selected if a process chemical is

present over 0.1%.

Intended Use Reaction residue Impurity

Hidden / Deleted substance:

 Hidden or deleted/deactivated substances are not permitted, Hyundai/Kia
maintains strict validation regarding these substances.

 The presence of hidden or deleted/deactivated substances is prohibited in

their data, and they will reject any data that contains such substances.

 Therefore, it is imperative that we update the data accordingly to ensure

compliance with our customer's requirements.

Basic Substance information

Gas/liquid substances:

Gas/liquid substances that do not exist in the final product (e.g., plating solvent,
paint solvent, preprocessing cleaner) are excluded when creating an MDS.

If gas/liquid substances are included in the final product, they should be inputted by
selecting material classification 9.x (e.g., refrigerant, brake oil, lubricant, battery
liquid, etc.).

Water (CAS: 7732-18-5) is generally not allowed, except in the following cases:

 If the IMDS-Committee has published the material.

 If confirmed by the supplier (e.g., jelly-type materials for damper, hydration in the
coating, etc.).
 If classified under 9.x (Materials that can exist in liquid or gas form).

Heavy Metals and their Application:

 Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Mercury (Hg), Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6+),

and their compounds should not exceed defined allowable values.
 Even small amounts of these substances should be included in the
datasheet. There are specific thresholds and exceptional permissions
for heavy metals outlined in the HMC/KMC Material Specification.
 Also, Hyundai / Kia will be rejected, if our data has hidden, expired and
inactive app ID.
 Each heavy metal has a concentration value, and if it falls within the
limit, the appropriate application code must be selected as lead[44],
Chromium [45],mercury [46], Cadmium [47]

Lead 0.1
Mercury 0.1
Chromium 0.1
Cadmium 0.01

Direct purchase part
• As per our BoM, If any direct purchased part is confirmed by PD /
Requestor It should be added as per Hyundai / Kia guidance.

• A part number for the dummy part should be given by the PD / Requestor.

Hyundai / Kia guidance:

How to make DUMMY PART
• Generate a component
– Component Name: Dummy part

– Component Part number: Hyundai/Kia's number

– Quantity: As specified in the BOM

IMDS 11.0 – May 2023 release

Apart from those checks, we received 2 major updates from Hyundai/ kia in
2023.

In IMDS 11.0 which is received in May 2023, has below updates from the
customer.

 Material classification (Deactivated classification)

 Material name input criteria
 Material symbol

Even though the update was received in May 2023, Still Hyundai / Kia is
not started rejecting for these reasons.

Company Confidential
IMDS 11.1 – Sept 2023 release

In IMDS 11.1 which was released in September 2023, we received an update

regarding Recyclate
- Input recycled materials

Recyclate
 The European End-of-Life Vehicle Regulation (ELV) is anticipated to be
finalized between 2025 and 2026. The main requirements will include the
obligation to utilize recycled materials.

 Recycled content declarations will be required for metal materials, expected

around 2028, and a 25% recycled content requirement for plastic materials,
anticipated by 2031.

 Therefore, HMC/KIA is requesting all the suppliers to include recycling

information when creating IMDS data for material classifications 1.x to 5.x, 7.1,
and 7.2.
