What is a Communication
Barrier?
“Communication is the key to success, but it is also the
barrier that must be overcome.“ - Unknown
Physical distance : This is the most obvious barrier to communication and can be a
challenge in both face-to-face and virtual settings. For example, if two people are in
different rooms or on different floors of a building, they may have difficulty hearing
each other.
Time : Time can be a physical barrier to communication. The amount of time that
elapses between the sender sending a message and the receiver receiving it. For
example, if a person is rushed or has a limited amount of time, they may be less likely
to communicate effectively.
Body language : A person's body language can be a physical
barrier to communication. For example, if a person is crossing
their arms or not making eye contact, they may be conveying
a message that they are not open to communication.
