THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN JOB
AND WORK

Job= A full or part-time position of paid

employment

It is a countable noun.
e.g. I had seven jobs in the past 5 years
Work= refers to general efforts and
activities done to accomplish a goal.
• It refers also to the context of your place of
employment
 We can say work at / for (a company): “I work at General Motors.”

 We can say you’re working on (a project / task): “I’m working on a

market analysis” or “I’m working on improving customer satisfaction.”

 We can say you work with (people / objects): “I work with special
needs children” or “I work with hazardous chemicals.”
Unlike the word job, work is an uncountable noun.

We can’t say:
I have three works to do this week.

But rather:
I have three projects or tasks to do this week.
