1. MEANING OF
DESCRIPTIVE
RESEARCH
• A research method that describes
the characteristics of the population
or phenomenon studied.
Primarily focuses on describing the nature of a demographic
segment; focuses more on the “WHAT” of the research subject.

• Descriptive Research cannot describe
what caused a situation, it can’t be used
for casual relationship, where one
variable affects another.
CHARACTERISTICS
Describes a particular phenomenon and get the general overview of it.

Aims to generalize the result

Works with large sample size

Normally collects quantitative data (numbers, statistics)

Variables are uncontrolled

A. OBSERVATIONAL
METHOD
• Observational research is a broad term for various
non-experimental studies in which behavior is
carefully watched and recorded.
• The goal of this research is to describe a variable or a
set of variables. More broadly, the goal is to capture
specific individual, group, or setting characteristics.
• Since it is non-experimental and uncontrolled, we
cannot draw causal research conclusions from it. The
observational data collected in research studies is
frequently qualitative observation, but it can also be
quantitative or both (mixed methods).
EXAMPLES

• Animal Migration Patterns

• Children’s Play Behavior
• Shopper habits
B. CASE STUDY METHOD

It is a qualitative research approach in Not a methodological choice but a choice An all-encompassing research method.
which researchers focus on a unit of study of what to study.
known as a bounded system.
C. SURVEY METHOD
• The survey method is the practice of gathering data for a study by
asking people questions related to your research. Typically, researchers
survey people who have particular knowledge, insights or experiences
related to the study.
