Its Impact MARIANITO V. NUESTRO, MPA,MSSW Professor OBJECTIVES: 1. To be able to identify your image. 2. To be able to enumerate the factors that made you what you are. 3. To be able to describe the way you want to look. 4. To make your “new you” fit your environment. 5. To see if your “identity test” is what you are. RELAX, RADIANT AND ELEGANT ►There is nothing like visualizing yourself and sending out messages to others. Does your self presentation say that you have done your homework? or does it camouflage the real you? PERSONAL PACKAGING Personal Packaging sends out messages to others. Is your personal packaging a true picture of your inner beauty combined with your outer beauty? That is the goal. Picture yourself as an exquisitely and brightly wrapped gift whose contents are unknown. Later, you will unveil the contents: ► Your visual poise - the way you move; ► Your social grace - the manner in which you behave and speak; ► Your aesthetic awareness - the eclectic knowledge that you possess. To get beyond the first impressions made on others, you must package your self attractively but never forget that there must be something of value inside the package. WHAT IS YOUR IMAGE? ►Your image is a reproduction or a mental picture of yourself as seen by other people. ►Your image is your concept of yourself. This concept is developed in your mind, projected into the physical universe and, once the concept is “out there”, interpreted and acted upon by the people around you. ►The way you are treated in this world depends largely on the way you present yourself: the way you look, the way you speak, and the way you behave. ►Many of young Filipino presents themselves poorly. Instead of acting confident, they appear overly modest and shy. ►Instead of behaving assertively they behave submissively. ►Instead of acting as if they are in control of a situation, they let the situation appear to be controlling them. FACTORS THAT AFFECT WHAT YOU ARE NOW ►Where are you from? Are you from the city? Are you from a small town? There is a cause & effect relation between your past experiences and your present life. ►The way you respond to people as an adult is largely based on the way you learned to respond to the members of your family as you were growing up. ►The way earlier you were given the chance to assert yourself at home, the easier time you will have in assuming leadership roles at work. ►If were the center of attention in your family, you may also want to be that with your friends. ►What names you were given when you were a child? Is it “nene”, “baby” or “pogi”? These names will envision yourself today. These old behavior patterns may not be appropriate for you anymore and it may be time to change them. ►Every change requires a trade-off. You have to be willing to make the sacrifices that accompany change and get totally new set of rewards. MAKE YOUR IMAGE FIT YOUR ASPIRATIONS ►How do you want to look? • Chic, authoritative, creative, sexy, understand, business-like, casual, feminine, tailored, flashy, and macho. ►The effects of body language is also important here. Your body movements and facial expressions affect the total image you are trying to project. ►When you change your image, you have to be prepared for new responses for other people, some are positive & some are negative. ►A new image will undoubtedly attract new types of people. ►Your image won't work if you're not comfortable with it. ►Image must be in harmony with your environment. ►Think of your image a form of communication.
