• Mesozoic means “middle animals” and is reffered
to as the age of the Dinosaur

• These are the 3 major subdivisions of the

Mesozoic Era Triassic Period(245-208 million
years ago). the Jurassic Period(208-146 million
years ago). the Cretaceous Period(146-65 years
ago).

Triassic Period(245-208 million
yrs ago
- Thisbegan after Earth’s worst-ever extinction event
devastated life. The Permian Triassic extinction event, also
known as the “The Great Dying”, took place roughly 252
mya and was one of the most significant events in the history
of our planet.
• One Supercontinent: PANGAEA
• Animals: The first small fast dinosaurs, the first
mammals and marine reptiles like trilobite
appeared in this period. Frogs, Turtles, Lizards and
Snakes also the first one who appeared here.
• Plants: Ferns and Conifess dominated the food the
land. with some evergreens and palm tree like
plants

- The end of the Triassic period was marked by

a mass extinction where 35% of all animals
died out. This was brought on by massive
volcanic eruptions between 208-213 mya.
- All this time. Pangaea began to break apart.
- The extinction allowed for dinosaurs to
flourish and rule for the next 150 million
years.

 JURASSIC PERIOD(201-145 million years
ago)

- This was characterized by a

warm, wet climate that gave
rise to lush vegetation and
abundant life. Many new
dinosaurs emerged-in great
numbers. Among them were
stegosaurs brachiosaurs,
allosaurs, and many others.

- Thisis the last period of
Mesozoic Era, following the
Jurassic and ending with the
extinction of the
Dinosaurs(except birds).

- The dominant land animals were reptiles.
- The first dinosaurs, marine reptiles, lizards,
and tortoises appeared.
- Mammals appeared during the Triassic Period,
but they remained insignificant until their
competitors, the dinosaurs, became’ extinct at
the end of the Cretaceous.
