He was the founder of a very important
oil company called Standard Oil. With this company, he controlled around 90% of oil in the United States by 1900. He revolutionized the petroleum industry, being able to reduce the production cost of oil. How did he help the U.S. economy?
At that time, oil was used in lamps and
for ships and automobiles. With his company, he provided basically to all United States. Also, when he retired, he focused his energy and wealth on education, medicine, and modernizing the American South. Why is his contribution still important today?
He founded in 1913 the Rockefeller foundation, which is still
