Fracture angle remains same always ! ! ! Cutter

High Gauge

Cutter Fracture angle = 8-12 Degree

10% of Y

When gauge decreases Horizontal 10

Fracture angle= 8-12 Degree
Cutter
clearance also decreases & vice versa

HORIZONTAL CLEARANCE
TOP CUTTER TOP CUTTER

HORIZONTAL CLEARANCE( HC)

If gauge = 0.50mm,HC= 0.050mm

If gauge = 0.185mm, HC= 0.0185mm

And so on …………………
Also few recommend
Hard material = 15% of gauge
Soft material = 8% of gauge

2. But if it is excess or more then required =?

TOOLING PRACTICE

 Dedicated Tool set

 Computer aided assembly
 Knife cooling & lubrication
 Knife setup to avoid edge ripple
 Spacers & rubbers storage & housekeeping
 Arbor parallelity
 Well defined practice
 Frequent checking of Jet Nut
 Cleaning of MASTER FACE of arbor

RECOILING ISSUES

17

Taking India to the World

VERTICAL SEPARATION OF KNIVES

•Excessive meshing of the knives results the following

•a) The fracture axis moves away from the center line of the arbors thus
increasing the loading required on the slitter head

•b) Excessive friction of the knives which accelerate wear resulting

pickup on edges

•c)The arbor may deflect

•d)The stripper rings may roll the edges of the strip to produce a short
regular ripple

•e)Knife marks

BELL SHAPED REWIND COIL

•One edge of the coil sometimes builds at a relatively high rate to produce a
bell shaped coil

•Edge waviness

•USE IRONING ROLL TO MINIMISE IT AND CORRECT IT,GIVEN

STEADY VALUE OF TENSION AND SPEED,HOPEFULLY REST OF
THE COIL SHOULD BUILD UP CORRECTLY

DO’S & DON’T

DO’S
Adequate Head End Dressing
Use of sharp cutter
Open Gap Fitting
Campaign Cleaning Before Critical Product
Regular cleaning of Master Face & Iron spacers
Segregation of Rubber spacers & Iron spacers
Keep the records
Grind cutter & rubber along with

DON’T
Do not process hot coil ( Recommendation within 55 degree)
Do not insert any body parts during run condition
Do not stand nearby scrap baller ( in extreme necessary “off” the baller)
Do not operate with single manpower
