ABOVE-GROUND WATER TANKS

BY : AYSHA HAWAR
INTRODUCTION
Above ground water tanks are versatile practical containers for
storing water. They come in various sizes and materials, making
them suitable for diverse needs, from residential rainwater
harvesting to industrial applications.
ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES OF
ABOVE-GROUND WATER TANKS

Advantanges
• Above-ground tanks are less expensive than underground
tanks .
• Easier to Maintain
Disadvantages
• above-ground tanks are exposed to the environment and the
elements.
• Difficult to Maintain Temperature
CHOOSING THE RIGHT ABOVE
GROUND WATER TANK
Choosing the right above ground water tank:
Several factors influence the choice of an above ground water
tank, including:
Size: Consider your water storage needs and available space.
Material: Choose a material suitable for your intended use and
local climate.
Shape: Round tanks are space-efficient, while vertical tanks offer
a smaller footprint.
APPLICATIONS OF ABOVE
GROUND WATER TANKS:
o Rainwater harvesting
o Domestic water storage
o Irrigation
o Industrial uses
MOST COMMON TYPES OF
ABOVE-GROUND WATER TANKS
• Vertical Polyethylene (Plastic) Tanks: The vertical
storage tank, is a tank that is shaped like a
cylinder ,These tanks are typically made of
polyethylene material , only be used to store
water
• Stainless Steel Tanks : A stainless steel storage
tank is one of the most flexible storage tanks

• Above Ground Fiberglass Tanks:
Above-ground fiberglass tanks often
are touted as some of the best tanks
money can buy. They have strong
foundations,are relatively lightweight,
and are resistant to corrosion, rust,
etc.
• Pillow Tanks

MATERIALS AND METHODS OR
DESCRIPTION OF THE MODEL

High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE): This is the most popular material for

above ground tanks due to its affordability, durability, and resistance to
corrosion and chemicals. HDPE tanks are also lightweight and easy to
handle .
MATERIALS AND METHODS OR
DESCRIPTION OF THE MODEL

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC): PVC tanks are another popular option, offering
good durability and chemical resistance at a lower cost than HDPE.
However, PVC is not as UV resistant as HDPE and can become brittle in
cold weather.
MATERIALS AND METHODS OR
DESCRIPTION OF THE MODEL

Steel: Steel tanks are the most durable option, but they are also the
heaviest and most expensive. They are also susceptible to rust and
corrosion. Steel tanks are typically used for industrial applications where
large volumes of water need to be stored.
