INTRODUCTION

Motorbikes are widely used around the world,

with approximately 1.2 billion[1] in operation
daily and over half of them are equipped with
internal combustion engines. However, most
motorbike users lack awareness of important
vehicle indicators such as fuel consumption and
maintenance schedules, which can have various
negative consequences.

• Firstly, not knowing the fuel consumption

of a motorbike can led to increased fuel
costs and environmental pollution. Fig 1: The reality of motorcycles on the streets of Vietnam
• Secondly, theft warning is crucial as
motorbikes are often targeted by thieves, with many lacking anti-theft devices
• Thirdly, motorcycle maintenance is often neglected, particularly among female
users. Many waits until their vehicle experiences a problem before seeking repairs

INTRODUCTION

Identification:
•Understanding how the engine of a vehicle operates, whether it is functioning well
or not, ensuring stability, and whether it is fuel-efficient or not, is essential.
•We need to obtain data from the motorcycle engine control unit.
•We have chosen the topic: “A Research and manufacture of a mobile phone-
based acquisition system for motorcycle engine controllers”

Objectives:
•Collect all data sent from sensors.
•Calculate fuel consumption levels.
•Anti-theft alert.
•Calculate maintenance schedule.

4
HARDWARE DESIGN

Characteristic :
•The hardware of the control system needs to ensure the connection of the microcontroller with
signals.
•When installed in parallel with the ECU and the main control system, must ensure the stability
of the system.
•The hardware of the control circuit should be a compact size.
•The control circuit of the system needs to be energy-efficient .

BUILDING CONTROL
PROGRAMS

Characteristic :
•The control program is software designed to oversee and manage the operations of
the control system.
•The control program for this project must ensure accurate measurement of all
signals from the sensors in the engine control system.
•The control program mustn’t interfere with the engine control system, ensuring
optimal engine performance.
•The control program emits light signals and activates the horn in response to
signals received from the user.

BUILDING CONTROL
APPLICATION

Characteristic :
•A mobile app is software designed to receive signals sent from a microcontroller via
bluetooth signals.
•A mobile app analyzes those signals and show them to the user.
•The application needs to have a simple way to use, an easy-to-see, easy-to-
observe interface.

BUILDING CONTROL
APPLICATION

• Transmission and Reception Signals: Engine parameters such as crankshaft speed, temperature,
pressure, and more. Engine consumption and efficiency, maintenance schedule, control signals for
lights and horns, engine start and stop signals.
• Transmitted Signals: Engine parameters like crankshaft speed, temperature, pressure, throttle possition,
ignition timing, fuel injection timing, Battery voltage.
• Projected Transmission and Reception Signals: Engine consumption and efficiency, maintenance
schedule, control signals for lights and horns, engine start and stop signals.

RESULTS

The achieved results:

•Successfully designed a control unit comprising a control
circuit and control program.
•Designed and created a mobile application. The mobile
application operates stably.
•Identified the sensors used on motorcycles and how to read
values from these sensors.
•Successfully measured signals from the sensors and
displayed them on the phone for users to receive these
values.
•The system has operated stably, achieving the majority of the
previously set goals.

17
RESULTS

Due to time constraints, the project is still in the process of

being fully completed and needs to be developed further in the
following directions:
•Continue researching and analyzing the measured
parameters to provide information on the vehicle's
performance, status, and maintenance schedule.
•Optimizing hardware according to IEEE standards and
optimizing hardware size (desired 50x40mm)
•Upgrade the system to enable remote start and stop of the
vehicle, as well as alert users when someone interacts with
the vehicle.
•Enhance the mobile application for maximum user
convenience.
