National Petroleum
Construction Company
(NPCC)
The National Petroleum Construction organization (NPCC), a globally renowned engineering,
procurement, and construction organization, was established in 1973.

 .It provides total EPC solutions to the offshore and onshore oil and gas industries.

 The NPCC's Abu Dhabi headquarters oversee operations in the Arabian Gulf, South Asia, and
South East
Asia, with plans to eventually extend into Africa and the Caspian Sea.
Health and Safety
Health and safety is an important aspect at NPCC and all
construction companies and all interns and employees have
to attend an HSE induction which covers topics regarding:
• Policy on health and safety at work
• Regulations for the workplace/site
• Emergency procedures (including fire, spillage and
accident reporting)
• Relevant risk assessments and safe work systems
(including COSHH, manual handling)
• Site maps and plans (including noise exclusion
zones)
• Personal protective equipment (PPE)
AN EFFECTIVE HSE PROGRAM
RESULTS IN:

•Employee relations and morale increasing because being a less dangerous workplace is less
stressful.
•Reducing the possibility of accidents and injuries by avoiding and controlling hazards.
•Greater effectiveness and output as a result of workers missing time from work due to illness or
injury.
•Because there are fewer workplace accidents and workers' compensation claims, insurance
premiums are cheaper.
•Costs related to accidents or injuries are decreased including those related to healthcare and
rehabilitation, lost productivity, and effects on employee wellbeing.
Mechanical engineering
department
Engineering focuses on the design, choice, and
integration of machinery to offer efficient solutions for
certain operations.

Highly effective custom solutions are ensured by close

and direct communication with process design engineers,
instrumentation, control, and layout designers.

The Mechanical engineering department consists of 3

disciplines which are static equipment, rotating
equipment, and package equipment.
Most of the focus in the static equipment
department were on pressure vessels
A pressure vessel is a vessel that can withstand
pressure greater than or less than the atmospheric
pressure (internal and external pressure).
A pressure vessel is comprised of key
components which are the shell, head, nozzle,
support, and base block.
Each part is designed according to “ASME Section
VII Di1,2, or 3”. But mainly NPCC used Division 1.

static
ROTATI
NG
Drivers (motors), Driven (impellers and
turbines) and Transmission (belts and gears).
Used to transport fluid from one energy level to
another using kinetic energy.

The centrifugal pump, which has a smooth flow

rate, a wide range of capacity, and a straightforward
construction, is one of the primary pumps utilized
at NPCC.
PACK
AGE
Refers to a group of rotating and static
pieces of equipment.

This Section covers HVAC, material

handling, air utility, and water utility
packages.

Package equipment is purchased by

NPCC because it minimizes coordination
time between disciplines, expenses, and
erection time at SITE.
TASKS AND TECHNICAL
CHALLENGES
Most of our training was lecture based with the main task being is looking through the codes
and standards which where:
 Review ASME Section VIII div I

 Review ASME Section II part A

 Review ASME Section II part B

Review ASME Section II part D

We also conducted research

on:
 Design Pressure, MAWP, and
MAP
 Hydrostatic test

And we got to solve problem statements regarding shell design and head design.

Filled out and reviewed a technical bid evaluation.

The main software used for design,
especially with static equipment, is PV-
Elite.

 Main technical challenge:

• Program may produce wrong

calculations.

 Solution:

• Manually checking the calculation.

SKILLS GAINED & FUTURE
IMPROVEMENTS

 Listening & communication

 Team work

 Critical thinking

 Professionalism

 Future improvements:

• Increase knowledge regarding my field

• Work on information extraction skills.

CONCLU
SION

 I look forward to better my self in the future by:

• Enhancing my skills
• Increasing my knowledge
• Increasing my experience

 I am honored to have trained in such industry with a leading oil and gas construction company, NPCC.
Looking forward for future opportunities in oil and gas or any industry related to mechanical
engineering.
