Fisheries Acoustics
HYDROACOUSTIC

-is the study of sound in the water. It involves using sound waves to
understand various aspects of the underwater environment such as the
depth, shape, and composition of the seabed, as well as the location and
behavior of the underwater objects.
FISHERIES ACOUSTICS

-is the broad field of study that uses sound to

understand the underwater world, particularly
focusing on aquatic organisms like fish.
TYPES OF FISHERIES
ACOUSTIC
TECHNIQUES
SINGLE BEAM SONAR

-a type of sonar system emtis a

single acoustic beam into the
water and receives the echo. It
is often used for basic fish
detection and depth sounding,
especially in shallow waters.
SPLIT-BEAM ACOUSTICS

-Split-beam is a type of active sonar

that uses sound to explore the
composition of our ocean. And it is the
most basic form of fisheries acoustics,
useful for detecting anomalies on the
seafloor, surveying organisms
throughout the water column, and
estimating biomass for fisheries.
MULTIBEAM SONAR

-this type of sonar uses

multiple beams of sound to
capture a wider area of
seafloor or water column. It
provides more detailed and
comprehensive data.
ECHO INTEGRATION
-a technique that estimates fish biomass by integrating the
strength of echoes over time and depth, providing a
quantitative assessment of fish abundance.

DOPPLER ACOUSTICS

-a technique that measures the speed and direction of moving

objects, such as fish, using the Doppler effect, providing insights
into fish behavior and currents.
ACOUSTIC TELEMETRY
-it involves tagging fish
with acoustic transmitters
and using receivers to
track their movements.
This can provide valuable
information on fish
behavior, migration
patterns, and habitat use.
TOOLS/EQUIPMENTS
ECHO SOUNDER

-it send a pulse of sound into the

water and measure the time it
takes for the sound to bounce
back (echo) from objects in the
water. This information can be
used to estimate the abundance
and distribution of fish.
ACOUSTIC CAMERAS

-are specialized devices used to

visualize and study underwater
environments, particularly in
fisheries research.
SOFTWARE
-for echo inegration and data
analysis.
ACOUSTIC
TRANSMITTER &
RECIEVERS
-used in acoustic telemetry
DOPPLER ECHOSOUNDER

-used for doppler acoustics
