Safety Data Sheets Compliance

To assess the regulatory compliance of SDS

 SDS compliance with REACH and CLP regulations as amended Assessment of Exposure Scenarios
 If the intended use is among the identified permitted uses To check that the use and indication relating to relevant
exposure scenario (operating conditions, worker and
 Whether the current or intended use is contemplated in the exposure scenario environment exposure controls) are in line with the use
and conditions adopted in the work environment
 If there is consistency with the conditions described therein

Hazard Pictogram

 An image which must be clearly visible on the label of hazardous substance or mixture
 Pictogram must cover 1/15th of the minimum surface of the label and its minimum surface must NEVER be
less than 1 cm2

Step-by-step Census
Census Update
Most important actions:
 Census of all substances and mixtures present in the work environment
 Identification of hazard and evaluation of classification of all substances and mixtures For purchased product
 Division of the substances and mixtures into hazardous and non-hazardous Immediately request a copy and/or update of the SDS
from supplier

What we have to check?

For substances/mixtures produced
 Manufacture’s label is affixed to the container of the chemical products and is consistent with the SDS The SDS must be constantly updated, so that the
 information contained therein is consistent with chemical
SDS complies with REACH and CLP regulations
product and regulatory update
 The use and, where present, the indications relating to the relevant exposure scenarios (operating conditions,
worker and environmental exposure controls) are in line with the use and conditions adopted in the workplace
 The census is periodically updated

Conservation and Storage Method

14 Eni Indonesia
Conservation and Storage Method

Chemicals recorded and present at site must be kept in off-site warehouse or in dedicated areas.
The temporary storage of chemicals in the immediate vicinity of the work area must be avoided.

Storage facilities must be safe and protected from damage.

Storage systems must protect chemical containers from damage due to extreme temperature, humidity, mist or corrosive
vapors.

All chemical substances or mixtures that do not have a specific hazard must be stored in closable cabinets and provided
with secondary containment or on shelves with an edge to prevent containers for slipping.
Cabinet and shelves must not be positioned along the escape routes or emergency exit, and also not to obstruct access to
emergency equipment.
Must be kept away from naked flame.

15 Eni Indonesia
Conservation and Storage Method

All chemical containers must be sealed well to minimize the release of flammable, corrosive, irritating or toxic
vapors or gases

In the areas of where hazardous substances and mixtures are kept and stored, the material for the neutralization and
absorption of any spills must always be available, as indicated in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS)

Storage Notes

What it is

Storage means the conservation of hazardous substances in closed packaging and containers with the intention of
using them within the company, transporting them or delivering them to third parties. The conservation time in a
store is generally longer than 24 hours.

A short-term provision for a manufacturing process or a delivery or a brief storage after delivery shall not be
regarded as storage. Even in these cases, it is still necessary to adopt similar and adequate safety measures.

Which types

Hazardous substances are stored in very different ways, mostly on shelves or in blocks.

When the deposits of substances are small, the storage methods do not significantly
affect the danger of fires and major accidents. The larger the quantities of substances
stored, the greater the importance of storage method in relation to the risk of a hazardous
event occurring.

The type of storage directly affects the choice of safety measures. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Beirut_explosion

Storage Notes

Which Hazards

Type of Storage Special Hazards

Storage on shelves  Great importance of packaging (wooden pallets, cardboard, films)
 Presence of individual storage places that are not easily accessible
 Rapid spread of fires due to the chimney effect

Storage in blocks  Fire outbreak, mostly not accessible

 Danger of collapse of high blocks

Storage of cylinders (gases,  Risk of bursting pressure vessels, especially if overheated

aerosols)  Propagation of fires due to flying cylinders or boxes
 Gas propagation

Storage at low temperature  Risk of freezing

(gas)  Risk of suffocation
 Gas propagation
 Risk of explosion
 Thermal insulation

18 Eni Indonesia
Criteria for Segregation of Chemical

Segregation of Chemical Products

 Amount of substance

 Physical state of the chemical substances

 Known behavior of the substance under specific

conditions

 Degree of incompatibility

19 Eni Indonesia
Criteria for Segregation of Chemical
Degree of Incompatibility

 Cases of possible incompatibility of the chemical substances are specified on the SDS.

 The effects of incompatibilities occur when after an accidental mixing of different substances, chemical reactions are triggered which can
develop in a very short time and escape control.
