education.

The deliberate avoidance of certain information that may change your mind about views
that are firmly entrenched in the subject’s mind.

For example, ignoring red flags in a relationship because one is afraid of being alone.
How is this possible? Why do individuals overlook red flags?

WHAT IS THE BYSTANDER EFFECT?

• The bystander effect is a social phenomenon where individuals are less likely to offer
help or intervene in an emergency situation when others are present.
• It occurs because each individual assumes that someone else will take responsibility or
provide assistance, leading to a diffusion of responsibility.
• The presence of others can create a sense of anonymity and reduce feelings of personal
responsibility, resulting in inaction.
