ART HISTORY AND

INFLUENCE ACROSS THE
WORLD
ARCHITECTURE
The earliest Japanese
architecture was seen in
prehistoric times in simple
pit-houses and stores
adapted to the needs of a
hunter-gatherer
population

The introduction of Buddhism in Japan

during the sixth century was a catalyst for
large-scale temple building using
complicated techniques in wood.
Influence from the Chinese Sui and Tang
dynasties led to the foundation of the first
permanent capital in Nara
THE GREAT WAVE OFF
Kanagawa

• a woodblock print by
Japanese ukiyo-e artist
Hokusai, created in late
1831 during the Edo period
of Japanese history. The
print depicts three boats
moving through a storm-
tossed sea, with a large,
cresting wave forming a
spiral in the centre and
Mount Fuji visible in the
background.

Woodblock printing is a
traditional printing method that
originated in china but later
spead to east asia and Japan. It
was used primarily for buddhist
text and illustrated scrolls.

Japanese art on
Western artists
established itself
at the end of the
19th century during
the Impressionist
movement

The concept came to be known

Japanese art. Good examples
of art influenced by
japanisme is vincent van

introduced to Japan, this inspired artists
such as Junichi kouchi and seitaro
kitoyama who were considered the
fathers of anime. The dull sword is
considered one of the first animes.

Anime is
undoubtedly a form
