BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Walking can be used to benefit academic research, help with problem-


solving and promote creative thinking. Walking is simply a method of getting
from one place to another, but it may also help us release tension and relax,
thus breaking up a busy working day. Walking is automatic for many of us, and
it provides valuable space to mull over thoughts and clarify concepts. Our
walks can be lonely or shared, long or short, and are often characterized by the
weather, accessibility of the route, and how much time we have to spare. While
there is no normative method to walk, four attitudes emerge when we consider
it as a research tool: walking alone, walking together, walking to focus, and
walking to detach. (Mckay, 2022).
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The Researchers had come up with a study which focused


on the benefits of walking among students' psychosocial aspects.
And also, as an advocate, the researchers would like to come up
with ways to effectively encourage students by dropping
accurate and reliable information about the benefits of walking
and, as well as, by encouraging them to spend their free time
doing physical activity as basic as walking.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

satisfaction of BS BIO students at West Visayas State University?
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Student. In this study, students will be able to find means as to why they must
engage themselves in physical activities to cope with psychosocial issues and factors
which affect their performance as college students. This research will encourage them
to engage in physical activities as it provides the truth about the effects of walking to
the students' psychosocial aspect.
Advocates. In this study, advocates could use this study to defend their argument
or advocacy as a reliable source about the relevance of simple physical activity such
as walking unto college students’ psychosocial aspect.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Researchers. In this study, the researchers themselves can learn deeper about
the benefits of simple physical activity such as walking to the persons’ psychosocial
aspect. The researchers can raise awareness among themselves about their
responsibilities to achieve their goal which is to promote physical activity, even as
simple as walking to college students who cannot find the time to do so.
Future Researchers. For the future researchers, this study will serve as their
guide if they will be conducting the similar/ related study. It will give them reliable
information and data about their chosen topic in order for them to get some ideas to
begin their research.

Walking Improves Health
Another study by Landers et al. (2012) investigated the relationship between physical
activity and cognitive function. Regular exercise, especially for elderly persons, was found
to considerably improve cognitive performance. The research also demonstrated that the
advantages of exercise for cognition are greatest for those who already have cognitive
impairments, underscoring the significance of leading an active lifestyle in order to avert
cognitive decline in the ageing population.

results, walking might be a useful solution for students looking to reduce their
stress.

walking in urban settings was linked to students' higher sensations of vitality
and energy. These results imply that walking might be a useful strategy for
raising students' moods.

it is important to comprehend the Philippine context. Research examining
health and physical activity in the Philippine setting emphasizes the cultural
quirks and obstacles to consistent exercise. This knowledge is necessary to
customize interventions and advocate for walking as a practical and convenient
way to enhance Filipinos' well-being.

A lack of physical activity is a known risk factor for noncommunicable


diseases and mental health conditions. In the Philippines, some 41% of the
adult population is reportedly not moving or exercising enough, increasing the
risks of heart disease, diabetes, and other health conditions. In a bid to reduce
health risk factors and provide equitable access to healthier transport options
and recreational spaces, several national government agencies joined forces
over two successful multisectoral health initiatives. (WHO, 2023).
RESEARCH DESIGN AND
METHODOLOGY
Research Design : The present study will use a qualitative method.
 Respondents: The participants of the study will be the students from the
Bachelor of Science Major in Biology program at West Visayas State
University. The respondents will be randomly selected to answer the
questionnaire prepared by the researchers.
 Instrument: In this study, the researchers will use structured
questionnaires, This questionnaire type consists of standardized closed
questions.
