• The brain lies within the skull and is shaped
like a mushroom. The brain consists of four
principal part .
• The brain weighs approximately 1.3 to 1.4 kg.
It has nerve cells called the neurons and
supporting cells called glia.
• The brain is a complex organ that controls
thought, memory, emotion, touch, motor
skills, vision, breathing, temperature, hunger,
and, every process that regulates our body

 The brain stem

 The cerebrum
 The cerebellum
 The diencephalon
The Brain stem
• The brain stem is also known as the medulla
oblongata.
• It is located between the pons and spinal cord and is
only about one inch long.
• Your brain stem sends messages to the rest of your
body to regulate, breathing, heart rate, and more.
• It is composed of three sections in descending order.
i. Midbrain
ii. Pons
iii. Medulla Oblongata
The Cerebrum
• The cerebrum forms the bulk of the brain and is supported on the
brain stem.
• The cerebrum is divided into two hemispheres. Each hemisphere
controls the activities of the side of the body opposite that hemisphere
• The hemisphere are divided into four lobes.
i. Frontal lobe
ii. Temporal lobe
iii. Parietal lobe
iv. Occipital lobe
The Cerebellum
• The cerebellum is located and below the cerebrum.
• Second largest portion of the brain.
• Located beneath the posterior part of the cerebrum.
• Aids in coordination voluntary body movements and
maintaining balance and equilibrium.
• It is regulates the posture and balance .
• It is also known as Little brain.
• It plays a vital role in language and attention and can
assist people with vision and eye movement.
The Diencephalon
• The diencephalon posterior part of the forebrain
that connects the midbrain with the cerebral
hemispheres.
• The diencephalon is involved in many crucial
bodily functions including coordinating with the
endocrine system to release hormones, relaying
sensory and motor signals to the cerebral cortex
• It is enclose the third ventricle.
• It consist of three parts.
i. Thalamus.
ii. Hypothalamus
iii. Epithalamus & Pineal gland
