INTRODUCTION

The Measurement of Distances involves understanding different units of

measurement, tools like rulers and measuring tapes, and techniques for
accurately determining the length or displacement of objects.

.
STORY OF TRANSPORT?
Imagine, it's a holiday, and you're excited about your
plans to visit a place. The very first question that pops
into everyone's mind is, "How are we going to travel?“

Now imaging this question was asked many decades

ago..
HOW WIDE IS THIS DESK?

Have you ever measured the distance from your school

to your home? Did you notice how much travel is
involved in that distance?

Consider we want to measure a something then we will

required a measuring tape or a ruler
for now everyone have a ruler so let’s do one activity

Now take the ruler and measure the objects which you
see near to you.
SOME MEASUREMENTS?
Now let’s do a activity to measure the few thing like table books and other
stuff ,and floor.

Now use hand and foot to measure the distance.

For example, the length of cloth is 10 metres, so the unit of measurement

here is a metre. The quantity equals the product of numerical value and the
unit. It is written mathematically as:
Quantity = Numerical Value × Unit

The result of a measurement is expressed in two parts:

• A number
• A unit of measurement
STANDARD UNITS OF MEASUREMENTS?
In ancient times, measurements were based on body parts like
the foot and cubit, leading to variations. To ensure consistency,
the International System of Units (SI) was adopted, with meters
as the standard unit of length, subdivided into centimeters and
millimeters for precision.

Like
1 km = 1000 m
1 m = 100 cm
1 cm = 10 mm
CORRECT MEASUREMENT OF LENGTH?
In daily life, we often use a meter stick to measure
length. It has long marks for meters and shorter ones for
centimeters, with each centimeter further divided into
millimeters.

Do not observe the object at different angles while

measuring because this causes parallax error.

If the zero mark is unclear, choose any full mark on the

scale, subtract its reading from the reading at the other
end, and that difference gives you the length of the
object.
MEASURING THE LENGTH OF A CURVED LINE?
Choose a thread or string long enough to cover the
entire curved line. Place it along the curve, following its
contours closely and ensuring a snug fit without gaps or
overlaps. Straighten the thread and measure its length
using a ruler or tape. Align one end with the zero mark
and read the measurement at the other end for the
curved line's length.
MOVING THINGS AROUND US?
Think about sitting in a car at a traffic light. If the car
next to you starts moving, it might seem like your car is
going backward, even though it's not. But once your car
starts moving, the parked cars on the side might seem
like they're going backward. This happens because things
look different depending on whether you're moving or
staying still. It's like a little trick our eyes play on us!
TYPES OF MOTION?
There are three types of motion:-

Rectilinear Motion:
Example: A car moving along a straight road without any turns or curves.

Circular Motion:
Example: A merry-go-round at a playground, where the horses move in a circular path.

Periodic Motion:
Example: A swinging pendulum on a clock, which moves back and forth in a regular and repeating pattern.
