Design Brief

My objective is to produce a modern desk lamp that is not only fashionable

and eye-catching but also practical and adjustable. The lamp should be
modern and stylish in appearance. I want to offer users the ability to alter
the brightness and color temperature of the lighting to fit their preferences.
For simple positioning and light directing, it must feature a flexible arm or
an adjustable head. The lamp should use LED technology to reduce power
consumption and be energy-efficient. I also want to emphasize quality and
craftsmanship, making sure that the lamp is built by hand with attention to
detail. It need to provide a smooth user experience with simple assembly
and controls. My target market is professionals, students, and design
enthusiasts looking for a stylish and functional desk lamp.
Introduction

For offices and study places, desk lamps are necessary

lighting fixtures. They come in a variety of designs and
are constructed from resources like metal, wood, or
plastic. They are manually put together by skilled
manufacturers or by hand. Before being packaged for
distribution, the lamps go through quality inspections
to verify their operation and safety. Desk lamps
produced by hand provide your workstation a special
touch of craftsmanship.

Size
To accomplish my goals, I've established specific measurements for
my desk lamp:
Freestanding desk lamps come in a variety of
sizes, but the following are the most common:

Materials I have access to a range of materials in the DT lab, including
wood. Here are some examples of popular wood materials that
I could come across in the DT lab:
Depending on their design and intended function, desk lamps can

Finishes
After constructing the wooden and Perspex components of your desk lamp, it's essential to apply the right finishes to enhance both aesthetics and durability.

1. Stains and Varnishes:

Stains: Enhance the natural beauty of wood, adding color and depth while preserving its grain.
Varnishes: Protect the wood, providing a smooth, glossy, or satin finish. Choose based on the desired shine.

2. Paint:
Acrylic Paint: Offers a wide range of colors and can be applied to both wood and Perspex. Provides a solid, opaque finish.
Spray Paint: Ensures an even and professional finish, suitable for complex shapes and detailed designs.

3. Clear Coat:
Polyurethane: A clear, durable finish that protects wood and Perspex from moisture, UV damage, and scratches.
Polycarbonate Clear Coat (for Perspex): Enhances Perspex's transparency and provides protection against surface damage.

4. Oil Finishes:
Linseed Oil: Deepens the wood's color and provides a natural, matte finish.
Tung Oil: Offers a glossy finish
Conclusion

In conclusion, it has become clear as I work on my desk lamp that more study is
essential to its success. The focus of my investigation should be material
compatibility, specifically how Perspex and wood interact structurally and
aesthetically. To make sure that my lamp not only works well but also complies with
safety rules, I also need to delve into the complexities of electrical safety . I'll be
able to better focus my design to my target market if I stay up to date on market
trends and market preferences. I want to create an amazing desk lamp that
demonstrates my dedication to functionality, safety, aesthetics, sustainability, and
user satisfaction. I am working diligently to enhance the foundation of my desk
lamp.
