commonly misunderstood.

How does one get Cervical Cancer?

Cervical cancer is caused by severe abnormal changes in the cells of the cervix. During this
natural process of change, some cervical cells can become abnormal if you are infected with

partner or smoking cigarettes.

The cervical cancer vaccine is recommended for ages 11 to 12, although it can be given as
early as age 9. It's important to receive the vaccine before you have sexual contact and are
exposed to HPV. In India, it is recommended up till 45 years of age by some
gynaecologists. The vaccine is given as a series of three injections over a six-month
period.

Does the Cervical Cancer vaccine offer benefits if you're already sexually active?
Yes. It's possible that, even if you already have HPV, you could still benefit from the
vaccine . However, If a person has been infected with any of the four strains the vaccine
protects against, the vaccine won't provide protection against that type. But it will prevent
infection from the other three. it is important to note that Cervical Cancer Vaccine does
not treat HPV infection and only protect you from specific strains of HPV to which you
haven't been exposed.

Overall, the effects are usually mild. The most common side effects of both HPV vaccines
