Introduction

This Bible features all of the excerpts of

Christ’s earthly life. All taken from the 4
Gospels. These are all authentic biographies of
Jesus’ ministry and life. All of these stories are
proof that Jesus is the Messiah, the one to
save the world from sin and evil by giving his
life on the cross. And now every tongue
confesses that he is LORD and GOD become
human.
The Birth Of Jesus

 18 This is how Jesus Christ was born. A young woman named Mary was engaged to Joseph from
King David's family. But before they were married, she learned that she was going to have a baby
by God's Holy Spirit. 19 Joseph was a good man[a] and did not want to embarrass Mary in front of
everyone. So he decided to quietly call off the wedding.

 20 While Joseph was thinking about this, an angel from the Lord appeared to him in a dream. The
angel said, “Joseph, the baby that Mary will have is from the Holy Spirit. Go ahead and marry her.
21 Then after her baby is born, name him Jesus,[b] because he will save his people from their
sins.”

 22 So the Lord's promise came true, just as the prophet had said, 23 “A virgin will have a baby
boy, and he will be called Immanuel,” which means “God is with us.”

 24 After Joseph woke up, he and Mary were soon married, just as the Lord's angel had told him to
do. 25 But they did not sleep together before her baby was born. Then Joseph named him Jesus.
John The Baptist
 3 Years later, John the Baptist started preaching in the desert of Judea. 2 He said,
“Turn back to God! The kingdom of heaven[a] will soon be here.”[b]

 3 John was the one the prophet Isaiah was talking about, when he said,

 “In the desert someone

 is shouting,
 ‘Get the road ready
 for the Lord!
 Make a straight path
 for him.’ ”
Jesus is Baptized
 4 John wore clothes made of camel's hair. He had a leather strap around his waist and ate grasshoppers and wild honey.

 5 From Jerusalem and all Judea and from the Jordan River Valley crowds of people went to John. 6 They told how sorry they were for their sins,
and he baptized them in the river.

 7 Many Pharisees and Sadducees also came to be baptized. But John said to them:

 “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, 9 and do not think to say to
yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. 10 And even
now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 11 I indeed
baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will
baptize you with the Holy Spirit [a]and fire. 12 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather
His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
 13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. 14 And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized
by You, and are You coming to me?”

 15 But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him.

 16 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and [b]He saw the
Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. 17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in
whom I am well pleased.”
The 3 Temptations of Jesus
 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.
3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”

 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
 5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is
written:

 ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’

 and,

 ‘In their hands they shall bear you up,

 Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ”
 7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not [a]tempt the Lord your God.’ ”

 8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these
things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”

 10 Then Jesus said to him, [b]“Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”
Jesus starts his ministry and the First
disciples
 12 When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he left Judea and returned to Galilee. 13 He went first to Nazareth, then left there and moved to
Capernaum, beside the Sea of Galilee, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali. 14 This fulfilled what God said through the prophet Isaiah:

 15 “In the land of Zebulun and of Naphtali,

 beside the sea, beyond the Jordan River,
 in Galilee where so many Gentiles live,
 16 the people who sat in darkness
 have seen a great light.
 And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow,
 a light has shined.”[f]

 17 From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.[g]”
 18 One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the
water, for they fished for a living. 19 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 20 And they left their nets at
once and followed him.

 21 A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them
to come, too. 22 They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind.
 23 Jesus traveled throughout the region of Galilee, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of
disease and illness. 24 News about him spread as far as Syria, and people soon began bringing to him all who were sick. And whatever their sickness or disease,
or if they were demon possessed or epileptic or paralyzed—he healed them all. 25 Large crowds followed him wherever he went—people from Galilee, the Ten
Jesus teaches Nicodemus
 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night
and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God
were not with him.”

 3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.[a]”

 4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s
womb to be born!”

 5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh
gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You[c] must be born again.’
8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is
with everyone born of the Spirit.”[d]

 9 “How can this be?” Nicodemus asked. 10 “You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? 11
Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our
testimony. 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly
things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.[e] 14 Just as Moses lifted up
the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,[f] 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in
him.”[g] 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have
eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
A paralyzed man is cured and the calling
of Matthew
 Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town. 2 Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a
mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”

 3 At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!”

 4 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? 5 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your
sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 6 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to
forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.” 7 Then the man got up and went
home. 8 When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to man.
 9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him,
and Matthew got up and followed him.

 10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his
disciples. 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and
sinners?”

 12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I
desire mercy, not sacrifice.’[a] For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Questioned about fastin’
 14 Then John’s disciples came and asked him, “How is it that we and
the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”

 15 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while
he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken
from them; then they will fast.

 16 “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the
patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. 17
Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the
skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined.
No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
Jesus raises a dead girl back to life and
heals

a bleeding woman
18 While He spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped Him,
saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her and she will
live.” 19 So Jesus arose and followed him, and so did His disciples. 20 And suddenly, a
woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the
hem of His garment. 21 For she said to herself, “If only I may touch the hem of His
garment, I shall be made well.” 22 But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He
said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was
made well from that hour.

 23 When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players and the noisy
crowd wailing, 24 He said to them, “Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.”
And they ridiculed Him. 25 But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and took
her by the hand, and the girl arose. 26 And the report of this went out into all that
land.
Simon’s mother in-law healed

 Now He arose from the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. But Simon’s
wife’s mother was [o]sick with a high fever, and they made request of Him
concerning her.
 So He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And
immediately she arose and served them.
Jesus defends Mary Magdalene, a woman
caught

in adultery
Then each went to his own house, while Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
1
But early in the morning he
[b] 2

arrived again in the temple area, and all the people started coming to him, and he sat down and taught
them. 3 Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery and made her
stand in the middle. 4 They said to him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing
adultery. 5 Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. [c] So what do you say?” 6 They said this
to test him, so that they could have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and began to write
on the ground with his finger.[d] 7 [e]But when they continued asking him, he straightened up and said to
them, “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he bent down
and wrote on the ground. 9 And in response, they went away one by one, beginning with the elders. So he
was left alone with the woman before him. 10 Then Jesus straightened up and said to her, “Woman, where
are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 She replied, “No one, sir.” Then Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn
you. Go, [and] from now on do not sin any more.”]
Jesus, the light of the world and the
Father’s Ambassador
 Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in
darkness, but will have the light of life.” 13 So the Pharisees said to him, “You testify on your own behalf, so
your testimony cannot be verified.” 14 Jesus answered and said to them, “Even if I do testify on my own
behalf, my testimony can be verified,[g] because I know where I came from and where I am going. But you do
not know where I come from or where I am going. 15 You judge by appearances,[h] but I do not judge
anyone. 16 And even if I should judge, my judgment is valid, because I am not alone, but it is I and the Father
who sent me. 17 Even in your law[i] it is written that the testimony of two men can be verified. 18 I testify on my
behalf and so does the Father who sent me.” 19 So they said to him, “Where is your father?” Jesus
answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” 20 He
spoke these words while teaching in the treasury in the temple area. But no one arrested him, because his
hour had not yet come. 21 He said to them again, “I am going away and you will look for me, but you will die
in your sin.[k] Where I am going you cannot come.” 22 [l]So the Jews said, “He is not going to kill himself, is
he, because he said, ‘Where I am going you cannot come’?” 23 He said to them, “You belong to what is
below, I belong to what is above. You belong to this world, but I do not belong to this world. 24 That is why I
told you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I AM,[m] you will die in your sins.” 25 [n]So
they said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them, “What I told you from the beginning. 26 I have much to
say about you in condemnation. But the one who sent me is true, and what I heard from him I tell the
world.” 27 They did not realize that he was speaking to them of the Father. 28 So Jesus said [to them], “When
you lift up the Son of Man, then you will realize that I AM, and that I do nothing on my own, but I say only
what the Father taught me. 29 The one who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, because I always do
what is pleasing to him.” 30 Because he spoke this way, many came to believe in him.
The Canaanite Woman and Jesus
 Then Jesus went from that place and withdrew to the region of Tyre and
Sidon. 22 And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out,
“Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a
demon.” 23 But he did not say a word in answer to her. His disciples came and
asked him, “Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us.” 24 [j]He said in
reply, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” 25 But the woman
came and did him homage, saying, “Lord, help me.” 26 He said in reply, “It is not
right to take the food of the children[k] and toss it to the dogs.” 27 She said,
“Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their
masters.” 28 Then Jesus said to her in reply, “O woman, great is your faith![l] Let
it be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed from that hour.
The Unmerciful Servant
 Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to
seven times?”
 22
Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. 23 Therefore the
kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 And when he had
begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But as he was not
able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that
payment be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, ‘Master, have patience with me,
and I will pay you all.’ 27 Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and
forgave him the debt.
 28
“But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he
laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’ 29 So his fellow servant fell
down [e]at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you [f]all.’ 30 And he would
not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt. 31 So when his fellow servants saw what
had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done. 32 Then his
master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you
begged me. 33 Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on
you?’ 34 And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to
him.
The Healing of the Centurion’s Servant

 After he had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered
Capernaum. 2 Now a centurion had a servant[a] who was sick and at the point of
death, who was highly valued by him. 3 When the centurion[b] heard about Jesus,
he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his servant. 4 And
when they came to Jesus, they pleaded with him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy to
have you do this for him, 5 for he loves our nation, and he is the one who built us
our synagogue.” 6 And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house,
the centurion sent friends, saying to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am
not worthy to have you come under my roof. 7 Therefore I did not presume to come
to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed. 8 For I too am a man set
under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to
another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 9
When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turning to the crowd that
followed him, said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.” 10 And
when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant well.
The Resurrection of the Widow’s boy

 11 Soon afterward[c] he went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a great
crowd went with him. 12 As he drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man
who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a
widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. 13 And when the
Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” 14 Then
he came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said,
“Young man, I say to you, arise.” 15 And the dead man sat up and began to
speak, and Jesus[d] gave him to his mother. 16 Fear seized them all, and they
glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and “God has
visited his people!” 17 And this report about him spread through the whole of
Judea and all the surrounding country.
Jesus, the Son of Man

 35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to him and said to him,
“Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.” 36 And he said to
them, “What do you want me to do for you?” 37 And they said to him, “Grant us
to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory.” 38 Jesus said to
them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I
drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” 39 And they
said to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you
will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized,
40 but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those
for whom it has been prepared.” 41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be
indignant at James and John. 42 And Jesus called them to him and said to them,
“You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them,
and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 But it shall not be so
among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant,[d] 44
and whoever would be first among you must be slave[e] of all. 45 For even the
Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom
for many.”
The Healing of the Blind Bartimaeus

 46 They came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples
and a sizable crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus, sat by
the roadside begging. 47 On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he
began to cry out and say, “Jesus, son of David, have pity on me.” 48 And
many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he kept calling out all the
more, “Son of David, have pity on me.” 49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call
him.” So they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take courage; get up,
he is calling you.” 50 He threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to
Jesus. 51 Jesus said to him in reply, “What do you want me to do for you?”
The blind man replied to him, “Master, I want to see.” 52 Jesus told him,
“Go your way; your faith has saved you.” Immediately he received his
sight and followed him on the way.
Predicting the Passion

 They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem, and

Jesus went ahead of them. They were amazed, and
those who followed were afraid. Taking the Twelve
aside again, he began to tell them what was going to
happen to him. 33 “Behold, we are going up to
Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over
to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will
condemn him to death and hand him over to the
Gentiles 34 who will mock him, spit upon him,
scourge him, and put him to death, but after three
days he will rise.”
The Transfiguration

 1 After six days Jesus took Peter, James,

and John his brother, and led them up a
high mountain by themselves.[b] 2
[c]And he was transfigured before them;
his face shone like the sun and his
clothes became white as light.
Elijah and Moses stand beside the Lord

 3 [d]And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with

him. 4 Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, “Lord, it is good that we are
here. If you wish, I will make three tents[e] here, one for you, one for
Moses, and one for Elijah.” 5 While he was still speaking, behold, a
bright cloud cast a shadow over them,[f] then from the cloud came a
voice that said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well
pleased; listen to him.” 6 [g]When the disciples heard this, they fell
prostrate and were very much afraid. 7 But Jesus came and touched
them, saying, “Rise, and do not be afraid.” 8 And when the disciples
raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone.
Keeping silent of The Transfiguration

 9 As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus

charged them, “Do not tell the vision[i] to anyone until the
Son of Man has been raised from the dead.” 10 [j]Then the
disciples asked him, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must
come first?” 11 He said in reply,[k] “Elijah will indeed come
and restore all things; 12 but I tell you that Elijah has
already come, and they did not recognize him but did to him
whatever they pleased. So also will the Son of Man suffer at
their hands.” 13 [l]Then the disciples understood that he
was speaking to them of John the Baptist.
The Sick man Lazarus

 1 Now a man was ill, Lazarus from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2
Mary was the one who had anointed the Lord with perfumed oil and dried his feet with
her hair; it was her brother Lazarus who was ill. 3 So the sisters sent word to him, saying,
“Master, the one you love is ill.” 4 When Jesus heard this he said, “This illness is not to
end in death,[b] but is for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through
it.” 5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6 So when he heard that he was
ill, he remained for two days in the place where he was. 7 Then after this he said to his
disciples, “Let us go back to Judea.” 8 The disciples said to him, “Rabbi, the Jews were
just trying to stone you, and you want to go back there?” 9 Jesus answered, “Are there
not twelve hours in a day? If one walks during the day, he does not stumble, because he
sees the light of this world. 10 But if one walks at night, he stumbles, because the light is
not in him.”[c] 11 He said this, and then told them, “Our friend Lazarus is asleep, but I
am going to awaken him.” 12 So the disciples said to him, “Master, if he is asleep, he will
be saved.” 13 But Jesus was talking about his death, while they thought that he meant
ordinary sleep. 14 So then Jesus said to them clearly, “Lazarus has died. 15 And I am glad
for you that I was not there, that you may believe. Let us go to him.” 16 So Thomas,
called Didymus,[d] said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go to die with him.”
The Resurrection and The Life

 17 When Jesus arrived, he found that Lazarus had already been in the
tomb for four days. 18 Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, only about
two miles[e] away. 19 And many of the Jews had come to Martha and
Mary to comfort them about their brother. 20 When Martha heard that
Jesus was coming, she went to meet him; but Mary sat at home. 21
Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would
not have died. 22 [But] even now I know that whatever you ask of
God, God will give you.” 23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise.”
24 Martha said to him, “I know he will rise, in the resurrection on the
last day.” 25 Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life;
whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, 26 and everyone
who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” 27
[f]She said to him, “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the
Messiah, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world.”
Jesus resurrects Lazarus

 28 When she had said this, she went and called her sister Mary secretly, saying, “The teacher is
here and is asking for you.” 29 As soon as she heard this, she rose quickly and went to him. 30 For
Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was still where Martha had met him. 31 So when the
Jews who were with her in the house comforting her saw Mary get up quickly and go out, they
followed her, presuming that she was going to the tomb to weep there. 32 When Mary came to
where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said to him, “Lord, if you had been here, my
brother would not have died.” 33 When Jesus saw her weeping and the Jews who had come with
her weeping, he became perturbed[g] and deeply troubled, 34 and said, “Where have you laid
him?” They said to him, “Sir, come and see.” 35 And Jesus wept. 36 So the Jews said, “See how he
loved him.” 37 But some of them said, “Could not the one who opened the eyes of the blind man
have done something so that this man would not have died?”

 38 So Jesus, perturbed again, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay across it. 39 Jesus
said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the dead man’s sister, said to him, “Lord, by now there will
be a stench; he has been dead for four days.” 40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you
believe you will see the glory of God?” 41 So they took away the stone. And Jesus raised his eyes
and said, “Father,[h] I thank you for hearing me. 42 I know that you always hear me; but because
of the crowd here I have said this, that they may believe that you sent me.” 43 And when he had
said this, he cried out in a loud voice,[i] “Lazarus, come out!” 44 The dead man came out, tied
hand and foot with burial bands, and his face was wrapped in a cloth. So Jesus said to them,
“Untie him and let him go.”
The Entry into Jerusalem

 1 When they drew near Jerusalem and came to Bethphage[b] on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go into
the village opposite you, and immediately you will find an ass tethered, and a colt with her.[c] Untie them and bring them here to me. 3
And if anyone should say anything to you, reply, ‘The master has need of them.’ Then he will send them at once.” 4 [d]This happened so
that what had been spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled:

 5 “Say to daughter Zion,

 ‘Behold, your king comes to you,
 meek and riding on an ass,
 and on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’”

 6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had ordered them. 7 [e]They brought the ass and the colt and laid their cloaks over them, and he sat
upon them. 8 [f]The very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and strewed them on the
road. 9 The crowds preceding him and those following kept crying out and saying:

 “Hosanna[g] to the Son of David;

 blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord;
 hosanna in the highest.”

 10 And when he entered Jerusalem the whole city was shaken[h] and asked, “Who is this?” 11 And the crowds replied, “This is Jesus the
prophet,[i] from Nazareth in Galilee.”
The Cleansing of The Temple

 12 Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all those engaged in selling
and buying there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the
seats of those who were selling doves.[k] 13 And he said to them, “It is
written:

 ‘My house shall be a house of prayer,’[l]

 but you are making it a den of thieves.”

 14 The blind and the lame[m] approached him in the temple area, and he
cured them. 15 When the chief priests and the scribes saw the wondrous
things[n] he was doing, and the children crying out in the temple area,
“Hosanna to the Son of David,” they were indignant 16 [o]and said to him, “Do
you hear what they are saying?” Jesus said to them, “Yes; and have you never
read the text, ‘Out of the mouths of infants and nurslings you have brought
forth praise’?” 17 And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany, and
The Cursing of the Useless Tree

 18 When he was going back to the city in the morning, he was hungry.
19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went over to it, but found nothing
on it except leaves. And he said to it, “May no fruit ever come from
you again.” And immediately the fig tree withered. 20 When the
disciples saw this, they were amazed and said, “How was it that the
fig tree withered immediately?” 21 [q]Jesus said to them in reply,
“Amen, I say to you, if you have faith and do not waver, not only will
you do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this
mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will be done. 22
Whatever you ask for in prayer with faith, you will receive.”
The Ten Virgins

 1 “Then[b] the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their
lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 [c]Five of them were
foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones, when taking their lamps,
brought no oil with them, 4 but the wise brought flasks of oil with their
lamps. 5 Since the bridegroom was long delayed, they all became drowsy
and fell asleep. 6 At midnight, there was a cry, ‘Behold, the bridegroom!
Come out to meet him!’ 7 Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their
lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for
our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise ones replied, ‘No, for there may
not be enough for us and you. Go instead to the merchants and buy some
for yourselves.’ 10 While they went off to buy it, the bridegroom came
and those who were ready went into the wedding feast with him. Then the
door was locked. 11 [d]Afterwards the other virgins came and said, ‘Lord,
Lord, open the door for us!’ 12 But he said in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, I
do not know you.’ 13 Therefore, stay awake,[e] for you know neither the
day nor the hour.
The Talents

 14 “It will be as when a man who was going on a journey[g] called in his servants and entrusted his
possessions to them. 15 To one he gave five talents;[h] to another, two; to a third, one—to each
according to his ability. Then he went away. Immediately 16 the one who received five talents went
and traded with them, and made another five. 17 Likewise, the one who received two made another
two. 18 [i]But the man who received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and buried his
master’s money. 19 After a long time the master of those servants came back and settled accounts
with them. 20 The one who had received five talents came forward bringing the additional five.[j]
He said, ‘Master, you gave me five talents. See, I have made five more.’ 21 His master said to him,
‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you
great responsibilities. Come, share your master’s joy.’ 22 [Then] the one who had received two
talents also came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two talents. See, I have made two more.’
23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small
matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master’s joy.’ 24 Then the one who
had received the one talent came forward and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a demanding person,
harvesting where you did not plant and gathering where you did not scatter; 25 so out of fear I went
off and buried your talent in the ground. Here it is back.’ 26 His master said to him in reply, ‘You
wicked, lazy servant![k] So you knew that I harvest where I did not plant and gather where I did not
scatter? 27 Should you not then have put my money in the bank so that I could have got it back with
interest on my return? 28 Now then! Take the talent from him and give it to the one with ten. 29
[l]For to everyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; but from the one who has not,
even what he has will be taken away. 30 [m]And throw this useless servant into the darkness
The Traitor

 14Then one of the twelve, called Judas

Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and
said, “What are you willing to give me if I
deliver Him to you?” And they counted out
to him thirty pieces of silver. 16 So from
that time he sought opportunity to betray
Him.
The Last Supper

 26 [n]While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said

the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said,
“Take and eat; this is my body.”[o] 27 Then he took a
cup, gave thanks,[p] and gave it to them, saying, “Drink
from it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood of the
covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the
forgiveness of sins. 29 [q]I tell you, from now on I shall
not drink this fruit of the vine until the day when I
drink it with you new in the kingdom of my Father.” 30
[r]Then, after singing a hymn, they went out to the
Mount of Olives.
The Agony in the Garden

 36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and
pray over there.” 37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful
and deeply distressed. 38 Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and
watch with Me.”

 39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup
pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”

 40 Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with
Me one hour? 41 Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is
weak.”

 42 Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, [h]if this cup cannot pass away from
Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.” 43 And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were
heavy.

 44 So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. 45 Then He came to His
disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour [i]is at hand, and the Son of Man
is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.”
The Arrest and Interrogation of Jesus

 47 And while He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, with a great multitude with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and elders of
the people.

 48 Now His betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him.” 49 Immediately he went up to Jesus and said, “Greetings,
Rabbi!” and kissed Him.

 50 But Jesus said to him, “Friend, why have you come?”

 Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him. 57 And those who had laid hold of Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes
and the elders were assembled. 58 But Peter followed Him at a distance to the high priest’s courtyard. And he went in and sat with the servants to see the
end.

 59 Now the chief priests, [k]the elders, and all the council sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, 60 [l]but found none. Even though many
false witnesses came forward, they found none. But at last two [m]false witnesses came forward 61 and said, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the
temple of God and to build it in three days.’ ”

 62 And the high priest arose and said to Him, “Do You answer nothing? What is it these men testify against You?” 63 But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest
answered and said to Him, “I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!” 64 Jesus said to him, “It is as you said.
Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.” 65 Then the high
priest tore his clothes, saying, “He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of witnesses? Look, now you have heard His blasphemy! 66 What do
you think?” They answered and said, “He is deserving of death.”
Peter’s Denial

 54 Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed at
a distance. 55 Now when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together,
Peter sat among them. 56 And a certain servant girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, looked intently at
him and said, “This man was also with Him.”

 57 But he denied [g]Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.”

 58 And after a little while another saw him and said, “You also are of them.”

 But Peter said, “Man, I am not!”

 59 Then after about an hour had passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Surely this fellow also
was with Him, for he is a Galilean.”

 60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!”

 Immediately, while he was still speaking, [h]the rooster crowed. 61 And the Lord turned and looked at
Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster
Jesus Stands Before Pilate

 Then the whole multitude of them arose and led Him to Pilate. 2 And they began to
accuse Him, saying, “We found this fellow perverting [a]the nation, and forbidding to
pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”

 3 Then Pilate asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?”

 He answered him and said, “It is as you say.”

 4 So Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no fault in this Man.”

 5 But they were the more fierce, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout
all Judea, beginning from Galilee to this place.”
Judas’ Suicide

 3 Judas, the one who had given Jesus to his enemies, saw that they had decided to kill
Jesus. Then he was very sorry for what he had done. So he took the thirty silver coins
back to the priests and the leaders, 4 saying, “I sinned; I handed over to you an
innocent man.”

 The leaders answered, “What is that to us? That’s your problem, not ours.”

 5 So Judas threw the money into the Temple. Then he went off and hanged himself.

 6 The leading priests picked up the silver coins in the Temple and said, “Our law does
not allow us to keep this money with the Temple money, because it has paid for a man’s
death.” 7 So they decided to use the coins to buy Potter’s Field as a place to bury
strangers who died in Jerusalem. 8 That is why that field is still called the Field of
Blood. 9 So what Jeremiah the prophet had said came true: “They took thirty silver
coins. That is how little the Israelites thought he was worth. 10 They used those thirty
silver coins to buy the potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me.”[a]
The Sentence of Death

 13 Pilate called the people together with the leading priests and the rulers. 14 He said to them, “You
brought this man to me, saying he makes trouble among the people. But I have questioned him before you
all, and I have not found him guilty of what you say. 15 Also, Herod found nothing wrong with him; he sent
him back to us. Look, he has done nothing for which he should die. 16 So, after I punish him, I will let him
go free.” [17 Every year at the Passover Feast, Pilate had to release one prisoner to the people.][b]

 18 But the people shouted together, “Take this man away! Let Barabbas go free!” 19 (Barabbas was a man
who was in prison for his part in a riot in the city and for murder.)

 20 Pilate wanted to let Jesus go free and told this to the crowd. 21 But they shouted again, “Crucify him!
Crucify him!”

 22 A third time Pilate said to them, “Why? What wrong has he done? I can find no reason to kill him. So I will
have him punished and set him free.”

 23 But they continued to shout, demanding that Jesus be crucified. Their yelling became so loud that 24
Pilate decided to give them what they wanted. 25 He set free the man who was in jail for rioting and
murder, and he handed Jesus over to them to do with him as they wished.
The Soldiers Mock Jesus

 26 Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed
him over to be crucified. 27 Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the
Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. 28 They
stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and then twisted together a
crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then
they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they
said. 30 They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again
and again. 31 After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his
own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.
The Crucifixion

 Now as they led Him away, they laid hold of a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, who was coming from the country,
and on him they laid the cross that he might bear it after Jesus.

 27 And a great multitude of the people followed Him, and women who also mourned and lamented Him. 28 But
Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your
children. 29 For indeed the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, wombs that never
bore, and breasts which never nursed!’ 30 Then they will begin ‘to say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the
hills, “Cover us!” ’ 31 For if they do these things in the green wood, what will be done in the dry?”

 32 There were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death. 33 And when they had come to the
place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left.
34 [h]Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” And they divided His garments
and cast lots. 35 And the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying, “He saved
others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God.”

 36 The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him sour wine, 37 and saying, “If You are the King of the
Jews, save Yourself.”

 38 And an inscription also was [i]written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: THIS IS THE KING OF
The Death of Jesus

 39 Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, [j]“If You are the Christ, save Yourself
and us.”

 40 But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same
condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done
nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said [k]to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”

 43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” 44 Now it [l]was
about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. 45 Then the sun was
[m]darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in [n]two. 46 And when Jesus had cried out with a loud
voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’ ” Having said this, He breathed His last.

 47 So when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous
Man!”

 48 And the whole crowd who came together to that sight, seeing what had been done, beat their breasts and
returned. 49 But all His acquaintances, and the women who followed Him from Galilee, stood at a distance,
Jesus’ Burial in Joseph’s Tomb

 50 Now behold, there was a man named Joseph, a council member, a good
and just man. 51 He had not consented to their decision and deed. He was
from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who[o] himself was also waiting for the
kingdom of God. 52 This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.
53 Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was
hewn out of the rock, where no one had ever lain before. 54 That day was the
Preparation, and the Sabbath drew near.

 55 And the women who had come with Him from Galilee followed after, and
they observed the tomb and how His body was laid. 56 Then they returned
and prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath
according to the commandment.
The Resurrection

 Very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb, carrying the spices they had
prepared. 2 When they found the stone rolled away from the entrance, 3 they went in. But
they did not find the body of the Lord[a] Jesus, 4 and they did not know what to think.

 Suddenly two men in shining white clothes stood beside them. 5 The women were afraid and
bowed to the ground. But the men said, “Why are you looking in the place of the dead for
someone who is alive? 6 Jesus isn't here! He has been raised from death. Remember that
while he was still in Galilee, he told you, 7 ‘The Son of Man will be handed over to sinners
who will nail him to a cross. But three days later he will rise to life.’ ” 8 Then they
remembered what Jesus had said.

 9-10 Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and some other women were the
ones who had gone to the tomb. When they returned, they told the eleven apostles and the
others what had happened. 11 The apostles thought it was all nonsense, and they would not
believe.

 12 But Peter ran to the tomb. And when he stooped down and looked in, he saw only the
burial clothes. Then he returned, wondering what had happened.[b]
The Road to Emmaus
 13 That same day two of Jesus' disciples were going to the village of Emmaus, which was about eleven kilometers from Jerusalem. 14 As they were talking and thinking about what had happened, 15 Jesus came near and started walking along beside
them. 16 But they did not know who he was.17 Jesus asked them, “What were you talking about as you walked along?”

 The two of them stood there looking sad and gloomy. 18 Then the one named Cleopas asked Jesus, “Are you the only person from Jerusalem who didn't know what was happening there these last few days?”

 19 “What do you mean?” Jesus asked.

 They answered:

 Those things that happened to Jesus from Nazareth. By what he did and said he showed that he was a powerful prophet, who pleased God and all the people. 20 Then the chief priests and our leaders had him arrested and sentenced to die on a cross.
21 We had hoped that he would be the one to set Israel free! But it has already been three days since all this happened.

 22 Some women in our group surprised us. They had gone to the tomb early in the morning, 23 but did not find the body of Jesus. They came back, saying they had seen a vision of angels who told them that he is alive. 24 Some men from our group
went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said. But they didn't see Jesus either.

 25 Then Jesus asked the two disciples, “Why can't you understand? How can you be so slow to believe all that the prophets said? 26 Didn't you know that the Messiah would have to suffer before he was given his glory?” 27 Jesus then explained
everything written about himself in the Scriptures, beginning with the Law of Moses and the Books of the Prophets.[c]

 28 When the two of them came near the village where they were going, Jesus seemed to be going farther. 29 They begged him, “Stay with us! It's already late, and the sun is going down.” So Jesus went into the house to stay with them.

 30 After Jesus sat down to eat, he took some bread. He blessed it and broke it. Then he gave it to them. 31 At once they knew who he was, but he disappeared. 32 They said to each other, “When he talked with us along the road and explained the
Scriptures to us, didn't it warm our hearts?” 33 So they got up and returned to Jerusalem.

 The two disciples found the eleven apostles and the others gathered together. 34 And they learned from the group that the Lord was really alive and had appeared to Peter. 35 Then the disciples from Emmaus told what happened on the road and how
they knew he was the Lord when he broke the bread.
The Great Commission

 Jesus' eleven disciples went to a mountain in Galilee, where Jesus

had told them to meet him. 17 They saw him and worshiped him,
but some of them doubted.

 18 Jesus came to them and said:

 I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth! 19 Go to

the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize
them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, 20
and teach them to do everything I have told you. I will be with you
always, even until the end of the age.
