HUMAN DIGNITY

INTRODUCTION

• Human dignity is the recognition that human beings possess a


special value intrinsic to their humanity and as such are worthy of
respect simply because they are human beings.
• Dignity is the right of a person to be valued and respected for
their own sake, and to be treated ethically.
• It is of significance in morality, ethics, law and politics as an
extension of the Enlightenment-era concepts of inherent,
inalienable rights.
WHAT IS HUMAN DIGNITY AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
• The concept of human dignity is the belief that all people hold a special value that’s tied
solely to their humanity. It has nothing to do with their class, race, gender, religion, abilities,
or any other factor other than them being human.
• Human dignity justifies human rights.
• Feeling pride in oneself or a conscious sense of one's own worth as a human being living a
meaningful life, worthy of the respect of others.
• Human dignity captures the notion that every human being is uniquely valuable and therefore
ought to be accorded the highest respect and care.
• Dignity is one of the most important things to the human spirit. It means being valued and
respected for what you are, what you believe in, and how you live your live. Treating other
people with dignity means treating them the way we'd like to be treated ourselves.
• It means to be inclusive and empower everyone around you.
• Dignity means to be kind loyal, humble and courageous.
• Dignity should be the basic of guiding and the principle of all actions.

of arrogance and low self-esteem.

possess, but it is in fact a remarkable character strength.
