RATIONAL
METHOD
• Introduced in England
in 1889, has its
genesis in pure
reasoning.
• Used to compute peak
runoff, Qp, following a
rainfall event.
• It makes no attempt to
estimate runoff before
or after the peak but
simply estimates the
one quantity of flow
that is greatest.
