SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

At the end of the presentation, all learners


should be able to:
Define lesson plan
Explain purpose of writing a lesson plan
Discus lesson plan in groups
WHAT IS A LESSON PLAN

Lesson plan is a teacher’s guide for


facilitating a lesson
Basically, a lesson plan consist of what
learners need to learn; method of
delivering the content; and a way of
determining effectiveness of the lesson
PURPOSE OF THE LESSON PLAN

 It guides a teacher throughout the lesson


 It simplifies the delivery of the content
 It helps facilitator to deliver the content that was
planned.
 It provides a way of evaluating the method of
delivery
 It ensures maximum understanding of the lesson by
learners
COMPONENTS OF A LESSON PLAN

1. Cover page, which comprises of:


o Date and time
o Venue
o Topic
o Duration
o Name of facilitator
o Type of audience
o Main purpose of the lesson
o Specific objectives of the lesson
2. Time allocated:
 This is the number of minutes a facilitator will take
tackling each specific objective
3. Content:
These are instructional resources that a facilitator uses
to cover the content.
The whole content of a lesson is derived from specific
objectives
4. Teacher’s activity:
 This is exactly what is expected from a teacher
when tackling each specific objective (e.g.) asking,
listening, explaining, supervising, clarifying, etc.
5. Learners’ activity:
 What is expected from the audience on each
specific objective (e.g.) asking, listening,
responding
6. Teaching aids:
 These are items and methods that facilitate
delivery of the lesson and easy understanding
of the content by the audience
7. Assessment:
 This is a method of evaluating the audience’s
understanding of specific objectives
For instance, on definition of malaria, the
audience is asked to define malaria after the
content has just been delivered.
8. Summary/Conclusion
At this stage, facilitator provide the audience
with a brief explanation of the content
covered.
