Rationale
In the realm of education, proficient reading comprehension stands as a cornerstone
skill that underpins academic success and lifelong learning. As learners progress through their
educational journey, the ability to not only decode text but also to deeply understand and engage
with its content becomes increasingly vital. Among high school students, particularly in Grade 11,
refining these comprehension skills is paramount, given the complexity and depth of the material
they encounter across various subjects.
In the quest to enhance reading comprehension among Grade 11 learners, educators often turn to
structured methodologies that promote active engagement with texts. (Lori D. Oczkus)
The use of the PHIL-IRI materials for the reading comprehension for Grade 11 students is very
much essential in knowing their level of reading skills, which will be determined by this factors
namely, frustration, independent and instruction. It can be attest through the result findings in the
Pre-Test and Post-Test.
This research endeavors to address the challenge of bolstering reading comprehension among
Grade 11 learners through the innovative implementation of the 4R’s framework – Read, React,
Retell, Reflect. The 4R’s models offers a structured and systematic approach designed to scaffold
students’ comprehension abilities, guiding them from surface-level reading to nuanced
understanding and critical analysis.
Research Question

 1. How does the implementation of the 4R's strategy affect

the reading comprehension skills of Grade 11 learners?
 2. What are the perceptions of Grade 11 students regarding
the effectiveness of the 4R's strategy in improving their
reading comprehension?
 3. How do Grade 11 teachers perceive the feasibility and
practicality of integrating the 4R's strategy into their teaching
practices?
Proposed Innovation and Intervention
The following are proposed intervention of the
study:
1. Structured Workshops: Conduct structured workshops
where teachers guide Grade 11 students through the Four R's
strategy.
2. Integrated Curriculum Approach: Integrate the Four R's
strategy into the Grade 11 curriculum across various subjects.
3. Teacher Professional Development: Provide Grade 11
teachers with professional development focused on effectively
implementing the Four R's strategy.
