Class Objectives

• Organize database using the fleet and shift features
• Demonstrate ability to generate a master data event report
in “View/Change Configuration” menu.

VIMSpc 2015A

Features and Capabilities

VIMSpc version 2015A contains functionalities of the following existing software products and
serves as replacement for them:

•All previous versions of VIMSpc, including 2013A, 2011A and 2009B.

•VIMS 3G Connect

•VIMS Supervisor

•TPMpc

•PCSpc

VIMSpc 2015A Installation Requirements

• Java must be installed by user before installing VIMSpc (supports 32-bit


Java versions 6, 7, and 8).

• VIMSpc can no longer be installed on XP systems starting with this


version.

• PC Admin Rights are required to install VIMSpc and master database


updates. Once installed, standard users can run VIMSpc.

• All air cards should be removed and VPN turned off prior to installation
and when running VIMSpc while connecting to VIMS 3G modules.

• The firewall or VPN software should be programmed to have rules or


exceptions to allow communication on the following internet ports for a
165.26.78.1-255 and 165.26.79.1-255 IP

VIMSpc 2015A System Requirements

To successfully run VIMSpc, the following computer hardware, communication


hardware and cables, and software are needed:

•IBM ® PC compatible with Pentium 1 GHz processor or greater


•2 GB RAM
•500 MB of available hard drive space
•Supported OS: Windows 7 and Windows 8 (32-bit and 64-bit)
•RS232 port with 16550AF UART (or compatible) OR USB 1.1 or 2.0 port with
a USB to Serial Port adapter (P/N: 370-8059 Adapter Kit ) for use with VIMS
Download Cable (P/N: 127-9797 Cable As ) for VIMS ABL & 68K hardware
•Ethernet port for use with the VIMS 3G Download Cable (P/N: 425-6889
Cable As ) for VIMS 3G hardware
•Adobe PDF reader
•Java 6, 7, or 8 (32-bit version)

VIMSpc Installation

1. Close any previous VIMSpc application running on pc


2. Save a copy your VIMS3G folder on desktop &
then delete it: “C\users\public\Caterpillar\VIM3G folder
3. Install VIMSpc with right-click on “Run as an administrator”
a) Attention: it first installs DB2
(very long installation & reboot requested at the end)
b) Attention: long waiting time at restart &
it finally installs VIMSpc
4. Install VIMSpc2015A Update 5.0.9 (Master Database or VIMSpc-Patch),
with right click on “Run as an administrator”
5. Select the LAN-Card used for Ethernet connection.

Process to re-install VIMSpc (if necessary)

1) First Uninstall VIMSpc


2) Then Uninstall DB2
3) Rename folder C:\Users\Public\Caterpillar\VIMS3G
(or delete if no data files exist that need saving)
4) Reboot PC
4) Verify that virtual adapter is uninstalled
5) Install VIMSpc again (follow previous slide instructions)

• Connect : Connects to the machine
when plugged in with VIMS Service Cable
127-9797 (ABL) or (305-5528/) newer 425-6889 (3G)
• Status: Provides information on the machine such as S/N,
Equip.Nr, Hardw- & Softw. P/N, Qty of Events,
Available memory… (and much more on VIM3G*)
• Download: Allows manual download of all onboard files
• Merge: Integrates files from your “unmerged” folder
into the db2-database (Dwnld/Unmerged => Dwnld/Backup)
• Reports: Allows the user to generate reports
based on the data accumulated in the database.

or to switch database (customers/training…)

•Reports tab provides additional customization on the reports.
VIMSpc default paths (as shown Slide 15)
• Unmerged Files = where go all the downloaded files
BEFORE MERGE.
• Backup Files = where they go AFTER MERGE *.
• “Equipment”
lists all equipments currently in the database.
You can add, edit and delete machines from database.
• Settings /Equipment / “Delete”
actually deletes complete machine,
i.e. S/N & ALL data from database.
• Fleets
To define fleets out of the machines listed in the database.
Simply click “Add…”
•Select the desired machines from the list
on the left and then click “Add>”
•Fill in the fleet name and click OK.
• Shifts
defines working shifts to apply

when generating reports

To do so, click “Add…”


• Fill in
the shift name,
the start time and
the duration,
then click OK.
•The defined fleets and shifts
now show up in the reports screen.
• Real Time parameters view while connected to 68K and ABL.
• VIMS 3G real time parameters are viewed through the status button.

• Datalogger & Snapshot can also be launched from this screen 68K and ABL
• Manually starting/stopping a data logger (30min memory, 1Hz) &
• Showing remaining memory (time) for data logger &
• Resetting the data logger if desired

VIMSpc Special Menu: Configuration


• Configure Equipment (IMPORTANT AFTER FLASHING)
to set date/time and equipment number,
injecting “User Specified” data into “Onboard” ECM (VIMS Main)

Note: it requires connection to the machine.


• Install Source and Configuration
- loading VIMS source software (=flashing) (only on 68K) &
- loading VIMS config software (=application) on the machine. (68k & 3G)
• Copy and Get Configuration (only on 68K and ABL) *
- copying the config to generate data event definition reports &
- setting up Payload on loaders, etc.
