CARE AND MANAGEMENT OF

COMPLICATION DURING
POSTNATAL PERIOD
OF MOTHER AFTER
ONE HOUR OF BIRTH TILL 6 WEEKS
PERSISTENT ANEMIA

 Refers to a condition where an individual continues to

have low levels of hemoglobin and red blood cells over an
extended period.
 In the context of postnatal care, it may occur after
childbirth and can be characterized by ongoing low iron
levels.
 This condition can lead to fatigue, weakness, and other
symptoms associated with anemia.
 The persistence of anemia may result from factors such as
inadequate iron intake.
 Ongoing blood loss (internal or external).
 An underlying medical condition affecting the body’s
ability to produce or maintain an adequate number of red
blood cells.
MANAGEMENT OF PERSISTENT
ANEMIA
 Iron Supplementation: Supplements iron regularly to boost
iron levels. Adhere to the recommended dosage and schedule.
 Nutrient-Rich Diet: Advice diet rich in iron, including red
meat, poultry, fish, beans and green vegetables. Pair iron-rich
foods with sources of vitamin C to enhance absorption.
 Hydration: Maintain adequate fluid intake, as dehydration can
worsen anemia. Water supports overall health and circulation.
 Rest: Ensure sufficient rest to promote recovery and prevent
fatigue, a common symptom of anemia.
Regular Monitoring: Undergo regular blood tests to monitor
Hb. levels. Adjustments to treatment can be made based on
test results.
Underlying Causes: Investigate and address any underlying
factors contributing to anemia, such as nutritional
deficiencies or ongoing blood loss.
Blood Transfusion: In severe cases, may recommend a blood
transfusion to quickly raise hemoglobin levels.
 Postnatal Check-ups: Postnatal check-ups need to assess
overall health and receive guidance on managing anemia
during the recovery period.
