AUXILIARY
MACHINERIES
•AUXILIARY BOILER
•MAIN AIR COMPRESSOR
•REFRIGERATION SYSTEM
• The auxiliary machinery may be in support of the main propulsion engines
and include heat exchangers and compressed air, or in support of ship and
cargo handling such as propellers and shafting, steering gear and deck
cranes, or in support of ship services such as ballast water arrangements and
sewage systems.
• Auxiliary marine machinery includes pumps, compressors, and blowers for
circulating fuel and the fresh water and seawater used in cooling systems, for
supplying air to the starting system of the main engine, for cooling
refrigerated holds, and for air-conditioning various parts of the ship
AUXILIARY
BOILER
Auxiliary Boiler means any fuel-fired
combustion equipment designed
primarily to produce steam for uses
other than propulsion, including, but
not limited to, heating of residual fuel
and liquid cargo, heating of water for
crew and passengers, powering steam
turbine discharge pumps, freshwater
generation, and space heating of
cabins. Exhaust gas economizers that
exclusively use diesel engine exhaust
as a heat source to produce steam are
not auxiliary boilers.
MAIN AIR COMPRESSOR
The main marine air
compressor acts as the power source
for starting primary and auxiliary
engines. The main marine air
compressor stores pressurized air, so
it can be released when the engines
start.
Main air compressor - It is used to
supply highly pressurized air to start
main and secondary engines. Air
compressor has an air storage bottle
which stores the pressurized air. There
are available different capacity main
air compressors, but this capacity
should be adequate for starting the
main engine.
REFRIGERATION SYSTEM
Refrigeration System is a
mechanical process or
arrangement that is
responsible for lowering
the temperature between
two points. For this
process to take place, the
thermodynamic properties
of matter are involved,
which are responsible for
transferring thermal
energy or heat between
two points.
