Multigrade teachers must understand that aside from factual
knowledge, pupils also acquire skills and positive attitudes.
Therefore, the teacher must use varied assessment tools and
methods to assess pupils understanding of the lesson such as
games, assignments, research, tests, experiments, projects, etc.

Attitudes
• Social, emotional, or physical
factors affect the students'
performance. Therefore, not
only content knowledge should
be assessed but also the skills
and attitudes demonstrated by
the pupils.
The National Research Council stresses the need for
multigrade teachers to incorporate innovative teaching
strategies and assessments that develop essential skills
alongside traditional academic evaluations. By integrating
assessments that target skills and attitudes, educators can
better prepare students to navigate the dynamic and
competitive landscape of the 21st century.
 Authentic Assessment

teaching strategies utilized in
multigrade classes.

 Conclusion
Assessment is a powerful tool that goes beyond simply
measuring grades. It acts as a compass for teachers, guiding
them in their instructional approach, and as a mirror for
students, reflecting their strengths and areas for growth. By
utilizing various methods, from tests to projects and
observations, teachers can gain a well-rounded picture of
student learning. This allows them to tailor their teaching to
individual needs and ensure everyone is progressing towards
achieving their learning goals.
