What is a reference?

A set of data or elements describing a


document, or a part of a document to enable
a potential reader to identify and locate it.

In-Text Citations

Which citation method?
• Parenthetical Citations:
These citations appear within parentheses in the
text, usually consisting of the author's last name
and the year of publication.

• Numerical in-text Citations:


Each source cited in the text is assigned a unique
number, usually in square brackets, such as [1],
[2], [3], etc.
