The Science Framework in the K to 12

Science and Technology Literacy (STL)


- the ultimate goal of science learning
- DepEd’s response to 21st Century Literacy provided
in the national framework.
-Involves three important components:
1. Understanding and applying scientific knowledge
2. Developing and demonstrating scientific
attitudes and values
3. Performing scientific inquiry skills
Characteristics of Science Learners

To become scientifically and technologically literate,


the learners must be:
 Critical and creative problem solver

 Responsible steward of nature

 Innovative and inventive thinker

 Informed decision maker, and

 Effective communicator

*The teachers will be assisting and guiding the learners to


acquire these skills

1. Understanding and Applying Scientific Knowledge

 Science literacy starts with acquisition of


knowledge
 Knowledge should be understood and applied

 Teachers should remember that memorization of


facts is important but they should be understood
and applied in daily lives
Science- is consist of :
 body of knowledge
 Process by which that knowledge is produced
Scientific knowledge
 is not absolute or certain
 Are socially and culturally embedded
2. Performing Scientific Inquiry Skills

 A systematic approach used in order to find answer to


mind boggling questions

 Set of skills to be learned by the students to include the


science processes

 Ask a series of questions and find answers to the questions


asked

 The series of questioning and finding answers to the


question is scientific inquiry.
3. Developing and Demonstrating Scientific
Attitude and Values
The development and demonstration of scientific attitudes
and are very important component scientific literacy
 Curiosity
 Humility
 Open-mindedness
 Intellectual honesty
 Perseverance
 Skepticism
 Creative and innovative
 Rational
 Objective
