1. WHAT IS THERMAL
INSULATION ?

• Heat transfer is the process of energy transfer from one object or thermal
system to another through direct contact
• Heat transfer occurs from a higher temperature object to a lower
temperature object and continues until thermal equilibrium is reached or
thermal balance is achieved. 3
1. WHAT IS THERMAL
INSULATION ?

• There are three main modes of heat transfer:

1.Convection
2.Conduction
3.Radiation
4
1. WHAT IS THERMAL
INSULATION ?

Additionally, hot insulation for operation systems and building

equipment also has safety aspect. The specifications for this are
control by the building regulation codes of the UK

5
1. WHAT IS THERMAL
INSULATION ?

• The methods of hot insulation can be understood as the term

insulation technology.
• This is used in buildings and in plant construction to keep
energy loss as low as possible or, if achievable, to eliminate it.
And heat insulation is concerned with reducing heat loss
6
2. WHY IS INSULATION
IMPORTANT IN HOMES?

Hot insulation is important for construction projects for several

reasons:
1.Energy savings
2.Improved quality of life
3.Protection of structures and equipment
4.Sound insulation

7
2. WHY IS INSULATION ENERGY SAVINGS
IMPORTANT IN HOMES?

• Hot insulation helps minimize heat loss in buildings.

• When effective insulation systems are applied, the internal temperature of the structure can be
maintained, reducing the need for heating systems and lowering energy consumption.
• This can result in cost savings and reduced environmental impact.

8
2. WHY IS INSULATION IMPROVED QUALITY OF LIFE
IMPORTANT IN HOMES?

• Hot insulation regulates the internal temperature of the building, creating a comfortable living and
working environment for occupants.

9
2. WHY IS INSULATION PROTECTION OF STRUCTURES
IMPORTANT IN HOMES? AND EQUIDMENT

• Hot insulation protects the building's structure and equipment from the effects of high temperatures
• By implementing hot insulation, thermal loads and temperature variations can be controlled, helping to
safeguard the construction and prolong the lifespan of its components.

10
2. WHY IS INSULATION SOUND INSULATION
IMPORTANT IN HOMES?

• Hot insulation can improve sound insulation and reduce noise from the external environment.
• It helps minimize noise from air conditioning, compressors, traffic, and other sources from penetrating
the building, creating a quieter and more comfortable environment.

11
3. HOW INSULATION BENEFITS 1. Insulation for buildings
AIR CONDITIONING

In Vietnam for the high-rise buildings,

the amount of heat transmitted through
the walls is 10-45%; 45-80% through
glass doors; 1-5% through roof; 1-
10%through the floor and 5-18% due
to leakage

A building is not designed to be insulated This will lead to significant heat loss in winter and
increased heat in summer. The field entering the building is introduced to the simulation in the
picture
12
3. HOW INSULATION BENEFITS 1. Insulation for buildings
AIR CONDITIONING

• Insulating buildings is an effective solution to contribute to achieving comfort heat for people to live, work,
and rest such as energy saving for heating and air conditioning wind

• Thermal insulation construction for roofs, walls... help reduce energy by 15-25% consumed for heating or
cooling.

• Efficient way heat also depends on some of the following factors: type insulation material, thickness,
manufacturer, substance construction quantity

13
3. HOW INSULATION BENEFITS 2. Benefits with sunlight
AIR CONDITIONING

It is also an excellent way to weatherproof an external unit, especially in climates with recurrent snow and
freeze. For sunny areas, it can offer protection against UV rays that deteriorate the external casing over time.

14
3. HOW INSULATION BENEFITS 3. Increased system efficiency
AIR CONDITIONING

• When a building is well insulated, the air conditioning system can operate at optimal levels. This ensures a
more efficient supply of healthy and comfortable air to areas within the building.

• The system does not have to work as hard to meet cooling needs, thus extending the life of the equipment
and reducing failure rates.

15
4. BUILDING CODES
AND REGULATIONS
• USA
Standard ASHRAE 90.1: This is an American international standard on energy saving in construction projects,
including requirements for insulation.
• Europe
Standard EN 13829: This standard specifies a method for evaluating the thermal performance of construction
works.
• Australia
Standard AS 4859: This standard specifies requirements for insulation in construction and is used to guide the
selection and use of insulation materials.
• Japan
Standard JIS-A-2101 on insulation in construction, including requirements for insulation materials and testing
methods.
• Viet Nam
Standard TCVN 5066:2012 on Thermal insulation in construction - Design regulations.
Standard TCVN 7947:2018 on Thermal insulation in construction - Requirements and testing methods.

5. COMMON INSUALATION
MATERIALS

Material Beneficial to the environment Flammable Note

Fiberglass Yes No Most common insulation material

Fire resistance, heat insulation, sound

Mineral Wool Yes No insulation

Reducing air leakage and

Cellulose No Yes environmentally friendly

Polystyrene (XPS) Yes Yes High aesthetics, medium price

Polyisocyanurate Yes Yes Excellent roof insulation

17
6. TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE HEAT
1. Use curtains and blinds
SYSTEM INSULATION

Using drapes and curtains also contributes greatly to energy consumption to help cool the house.
White windows, shades or curtains will help reflect heat away from the house.

18
6. TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE HEAT
2. Choose cooling equipment
SYSTEM INSULATION

Air conditioning is always the number one choice if you are not having financial difficulties
Using an electric fan helps you use less energy and electricity than using an air conditioner
In addition, mist sprayers are also an option worth considering

19
6. TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE HEAT
3. Green plants in the house
SYSTEM INSULATION

Planting trees to cool down is an effective measure to combat the stuffy air of summer. You can
plant trees or green vines close to the wall.

20
6. TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE HEAT
4. Reduce the use of heat-generating items
SYSTEM INSULATION

Even if the temperature is hot outside, your house can also contain a lot of heat-emitting objects.
It can be from desktop computers, printers, TVs, to washing machines, game consoles,
refrigerators, exercise machines, etc.
21
6. TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE HEAT
5. Create an escape route for air
SYSTEM INSULATION

The best room is to have two windows that are not on the same side to create ventilation. In case
all three sides are blocked by a neighbor's house, a skylight is an effective solution.

22
7. HVAC INSULATION
INSTALLATION
The process of installing insulation for HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air
Conditioning) systems typically involves the following steps:
1.HVAC System Assessment
2.Determining Insulation Requirements
3.Selecting Insulation Materials
4.Surface Preparation
5.Cutting and Installing Insulation Material
6.Fastening and Protecting
7.Testing and Adjusting
8.Maintenance and Regular Inspections
23
CONCLUSION

Overall, insulation plays a vital role in optimizing the performance of heat systems and should be
considered a fundamental aspect of any HVAC installation or upgrade.
Properly insulating a heat system, such as an HVAC system, is crucial for maintaining energy efficiency,
temperature control, and overall system performance.
In the face of energy and environmental challenges, investing in the insulation of heat systems is a
pivotal step towards a sustainable future. Together, we can stay warm or cool, save energy, and protect
the environment for future generations.
