PERIOD OF HISTORY IN OMAN

Presented By AL-Jarah Said

Grade 5/D
GENERAL INFORMATION

• Oman has a rich history dating back 100,000 years.

• By the 18th century, the Omani Empire stretched from present
day Oman down the east coast of Africa. A new era began in 1970
when Sultan Qaboos bin Said changed the name of the country
from the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman to simply Oman.
THE CLOTHES

• Omanis in a souq in Nizwa Kummahs are embroidered caps

worn by Omani men. For men, the national dress is an ankle-
length, collarless gown with long sleeves, called a dishdasha.
Most of the time, the clothing is white, although a few other
colors such as brown, lilac, and black are sometimes worn.
THE FOOD

• Although Omani cuisine varies within different regions of Oman,

most dishes across the country have a staple of curry, cooked
meat, rice, and vegetables. Soups are also common and are
usually made from chicken, lamb, and vegetables (e.g. smoked
eggplant).
THE HOUSING

• Built on mountain heights, stone houses in the Sultanate of

Oman are architectural heritage that enrich tourism. In the past,
rural and nomadic communities lived in houses made of various
materials such as mud, stones, trunks, and branches. Each type
of house had its own unique tools, designs, uses, and locations
THE TRANSPORT

• Until recently (which is not more than 25-30 years ago in Oman)
was transportation done by camel, foot or donkey. Today it is
almost all over the country done by motor vehicles. The sultan
has ordered that all villages must be connected to the rest of the
society by road (and by electricity).
