Handball was first played at the end of the 19th century in Scandinavia and Germany.

The first official handball match was played on 2 December 1917 in Berlin.

At the 1952 Olympics, field handball was a demonstration sport.

(Indoor) handball was introduced for men at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich.

Women's handball competition was introduced at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.

Is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each pass a ball using their hands with the
aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team.

A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals
wins.
Rules of the Game
Some of the main rules include:

• Players can only touch the ball with their hands, except for the goalkeepers.

• Players are allowed to take three steps with the ball before passing or shooting.

• Contact between players is permitted, but excessive physical force such as pushing, hitting, or
tripping is penalized.

• The ball can be thrown into the goal or passed to teammates.
