INTERNSHIP
Introduction to PSTS
• The public service transport service re-established on februray 8, 2014
and is managed by the government.
• The organization has its own office in Addis Ababa.
• When re-established, the authorized capital was 5 billion ETB and paid-in
capital, including in-kind, has been 1.806 billion birr in kind and cash.
Objective of the internship
• Tocreate the awareness of the working class community.

• Toteach us the responsibilities and qualities of a good engineer and

Daily Responsibility
• Replacing Timing Belt
- timing belt should be
routinely changed.
- But it has a longer life span.
Steps to replace timing belt:
• Step 1- remove the preceding components up
to the timing belt cover
• Step 2- remove timing belt cover
• Step 3- loosen the belt tension
• Step 4- remove the existing timing belt
• Step 5- replace with new belt and reassemble
Greasing ball joints and axle shafts
Greasing
- Type of lubrication
which helps to:
-reduce friction
-protect the vehicle’s moving part
-minimize exterior noises
-provide smooth performance
Engine oil of any vehicle
should be changed
Engine oil of any vehicle should be changed
- 5000 to 7000 km of mileage for new cars.
- 10000 km for used cars.
- Engine filters should also be changed along with
oil most of the time.
- Is most common service of the garage.
Engine oil
and engine oil filter replacement :
Step 1- check the level and viscosity of the oil with
dipstick To know whether the viscosity of oil is viscous
or not
Step 2- We loosen the oil filter
Step 3- We loosen a drain plug from the oil pan then drain
the oil in a container.
Step 4- Tighten the drain plug
Step 5- we add some oil in a new oil filter and then we
gently tighten the filter
Step 6- we pour the amount of oil the vehicle exactly
needed and check the level of oil by
dipstick.
Step 7- we run the engine on idling until the oil reaches
parts of the engine.
Brake system repairing
It should be checked every six months according to the rule.
• The most common causes of brake failing are:
1. Brake Disk and Plate overheating.
2. Dirt and dusts in the brake oil can cause the failed brake
3. The damaging of the calipers piston seals.
4. By not changing brake plates periodically
A Procedures to repair drum brake
• Step 1- we loosen the nuts and remove the tire.
• Step 2- we remove the drum.
• Step 3- we then wash the drum and brake shoe
• Step 4- we check brake shoe.
• Step 5- adjust the spring
• Step 6- reassemble the parts and tighten the tire
A Procedures to repair disk brake
Step 1- we loosen the nuts and remove
the tire.
Step 2- we need to open the caliper to
access the brake pads.
Step 3- we check if the pads are wear out.
Step 4- if they are we replace the old with
new pads.
Step 5- reassemble the parts and tighten
the tire
Clutch Disk
most common reasons behind clutch failures
are:
• Stretched or broken cables
• Worn-out bearings
• Leaking cylinders
• Damaged pressure plates
• Faulty repair jobs
Steps to change the clutch disk
• Step 1- we should park the car in hole spot or ‘HOLE’
• Step 2- Remove the gear shifter
• Step 3- Remove Exhaust
• Step 4- Drain the transmission fluid
• Step 5- We set parking brake to unbolt the drive shaft from
differential
• Step 6- Remove the starter motor
• Step 7- Unplug the sensor cables, wiring harness and clutch
cable
• Step 8- Unbolt the transmission mount
• Step 9- Unbolt the transmission from the engine
• Step 10- remove the fork and the release bearing
