OBJECTIVES

● Design with a group the visual


components of a school play;
● Contribute to the conceptualization
of an original performance; and
● Appreciate the people who design in
production.
Producer
 Theperson who takes the play from a mere concept to an
actual finished presentation.
 Choosesall the team members and assigns their
functions, and oversees the casting of the actors &
actresses for the different roles.
 He/shedecides when and where the play will be staged,
production schedule,
and even sources of funds,
Director
 The overall artistic coordinator of the entire
production.
 Throughout the play’s rehearsals, he/she:
• instructs and guides the actors as to the
delivery of their lines of dialogue
• their positions and movements on the
stage
• the thoughts or feelings they are to convey
through tone of voice, facial expressions,
and gestures.
Playwright
 The original concept or plot may be original, and the
developed, or may be based on an existing story which the
playwright will then adapt to present in a new way.
 The scripts forms the basis of the
entire production.
 In some cases, the director may
coordinate with the playwright on
making some script adjustments to
better achieve the desired effect.
Set Designer
 Its task is the conceptualization and creation of the physical
stage setup.
 He or she builds the set that will simulate the world that the
play’s characters are supposed to live in.
 The set maybe realistic and filled with authentic details or it
may be minimalist, merely suggesting the setting with a few
props.
Lighting Designer

 This coordinates closely to the set designer.


 Itis critical in creating the mood of each scene in
the play:
 Highlighting the dramatic moment
 Signalling the entrance of a character
 Focusing attention on a specific spot on stage
 Providing the blanket of darkness for set and prop
changes
Costume Designer
 He or she studies the general setting|
(time and place) that the play is
meant to take place in, as each
character and the script.
 Heor she decides what attire will also
express each character’s personality
and distinct qualities.
Sound Designer
 Serves a vital role in creating and enhancing the
atmosphere of the performance.
 The sounds includes music both on stage and as
background, which the sound designer may need to source
to suit the general time and place of the play.
He/she adds detailed notes to the script to
serve as a guide for the sound crew during
rehearsals and actual performance.
Production Manager

 He or she is tasked with overseeing the crews for the set


and props, the sound and music, the lighting, and the
costume.
 This includes ensuring that all needed elements, facilities,
and equipment are not only available, but are in good
working order, properly catalogued and labelled.
Technical Director
 He/she shadows the play’s director
throughout the entire
production process.

 Also, notes how each actor and every member of


the stage, sound, lighting, and costume crews
need to be coordinated to bring the director’s
vision to life.
 In cases where a play involves dance

music, but also rehearses the actor
