Yet another accident in Radley

Yesterday the accident, involving a Renault and a Ford transit van on the new
roundabout linking Radley with Abingdon, marked the 20th such incident in recent
years. Although a minor incident, it should make planners re-visit the road
layout, as the situation can only get worse with increasing traffic.

Who was responsible for the accident?

There isn’t much evidence but you have two sources. Read them and make a
judgement.
Driver of the Renault

“It was 8.55am and I was already pressed for time because of the amount of
traffic. The driver of the van in front of me in the queue approaching the
roundabout, reversed into me with such sudden force that he split my number
plate. He didn’t even acknowledge what had happened. He just drove away, but I
was quick enough to write down his registration number.”
Boss of the Renault driver

“At around 9.30am my colleague arrived to work late and was very flustered and
upset. They had had an accident, and explained how a van had reversed into
them damaging their car. I can confirm that this person is at the top of their
profession and is known not to take unnecessary risks.”

b) Why does the truth of this claim matter?

(Critical) thinking matters because the truth matters……

The truth is independent of us all. It
doesn’t care what we think or who
we are, or how loud we shout or
confidently claim.

There are only facts and falsehoods.
