WaSH/IPC update for Cholera response…
Maintenance of two blocks latrine is completed at Koha and Dibbahir HPs in Debark Woreda by
IMC
Three sessions environmental cleaning campaign conducted at Metema PoE by the support of IOM
 Construction of 14 seats semi-permanent Latrine has been under construction for Golmassa kebele of
Dabat, North Gondar by IOM
 Rehabilitation of borehole is ongoing for Bohoro Kebele of Raya Kobo in North Wollo by ZOA
 WaSH NFIs (Soap, Jeri-can & bucket) and dignity kits distributed for 300 HHs at Angot, Gidan,
wadela and Laseta Woredas by Save the Children.
Surrounding of HDW areas rehabilitation completed in Sakura kebele, Aberegele woreda by Save
the Children.
Water system rehabilitation at Tsata HC which includes 5000 lit Roto installation at Tasgbeji woreda
Save the Children.
One block latrine rehabilitations of ventilated improved pit latrine @Zarima health center is
ongoing by PIE

 Four HTH Chlorine drum 45 kg 70% were provided to metema woreda by IOM

 Two sessions of sanitation campaigns were conducted at China and woynishet


IDP sites by ALIGHT.

affected with drought

 About 1,846,895 people affected with this drought

 An estimated 250,070 under five years children and 62,240


pregnant and lactating women are found in the drought affected
areas

Weekly MHNT Supported Nutrition Activity Report Week 50,
2023
• 10,177 children and 3,408 PLW were screened for
malnutrition;
Screening for • 167 SAM and 593 MAM children were identified (proxy
GAM of 7.5%)
Malnutrition • 487 (14.3%) MAM PLW were found.

Treatment of Acute • 167 children suffering from SAM admitted to TFP (153
malnutrition and OTP and 14 SC).
micronutrient • 195 children and 123 PLW were admitted to TSFP/BSFP
supplementation; a total • 961 children 6-59 months supplemented Vitamin A.
of 8,849 children and • 901 children 24-59 months dewormed.
mothers reached during • 718 mothers received IFA, and 1,840 caretakers of children
the week (2,265 ) are 0-23 received IYCF counseling

 In this week, 4,055 (848 under five ) IDPs have received free health
services. And also 26 individuals developed mental health illnesses

 So far
 About 567,536 (141,422 under five) IDPs have received free health
services.
 Of which who get access to healthcare a total of 19,376 individuals
developed mental health illnesses due to war.

Logistic update for casualty Management, Epi week 50,2023

 For Causality
 174 line items (Pharmaceuticals, Medical supplies and equipments) were
received by RHB from ICRC
 In this week, Ethiopian Emergency drug kits and medical equipments
which costs 1,327,523.10 ETB were issued to Sekela and Bibugn
WoHos, Bibugn and Shegaw Motta Hospitals for Causality management.
 For Mertolemariam and Bibugn hospitals 119 line items (for each) were
issued from ICRC supported commodities

Sudan Refugees & Returnees update as of Epi. week 50,2023
 846 returnees and refugees crossed Metema POE of which 315 were Ethiopians during the week

 90,921 returnees and refugees crossed Metema Yohannis point of entry as 19 Dec /2023

 So far 39,727 Ethiopians returned and 51,194 refugees were foreigners

 To date 37,799 cases were got free medical service of which 1,946 were treated in this week

 Top five cases of the week were URTI=195, AFI=147,AGE=89,,Community Acquire Pneumonia =71,malaria =58

 There are 5 referral cases during the week

 01 SAM cases out of 400 children screed and 02 MAM cases out of 100 PLW were screened and linked to near by
clinic.

 SRH Service were provided for 100 women in the reproductive age group (30 ANC,30 PNC,40 family planning

 Service were provided by IOM and MHNT as of 19 Dec /2023 (EPI Wks 50)

Response activities Update on Returnees & refugees…as of Epi wee
50/2023
 IMS meeting were under going every Thursday

 Awareness raising was done with mega phone in different languages like, Amharic, English, Arabic Tigrigna
and Afa Oromo and addressed for 565 individuals on mental health and related issues using mega phone in
open space at POE

 A total of 1500 individuals were reached with key awareness messages on communicable disease and SRH
0f which 05 were referred to Metema general hospital for especial evaluation

 Recreational activities through Ethiopian cultural music was done for 50 individuals

 PFA was provided for 200 with different needs and linked them with medical& social support.

 There are about 40 vulnerable women and children were got material support like diaper, women
clothes, women under wear, sanitary pads, biscuit and packed water.

 Emotional support was given for 40 individuals with psychological distress including GBV cases

UNICEF
■ Fund support malaria day advocacy workshop was conducted at Bahir Dar city and 153
stakeholders were engaged from Malaria hot spot woredas, zones and from regional level.

■ Extended budget support for RHB on Logistic management information system capacity
building training at North Wollo and North Gondar zones and 44 health workers were participated
from both zones.

■ For health service restoration using UNICEF budget support, Debark Zuriya woreda was
conducted community score card training for 67 kebele community council members, health
extension workers and health workers.

■ 12 deployed MHNTs have continued providing services at 4 HFs, 6 IDPs and 2 refugee centers.

■ Continued technical assistance support (5 TAs) on emergency response and coordination at


RHB/APHI, Waghimra, N/Wollo and N/Gondar zones

UNFPA
■ UNFPA continued the provision of financial and technical assistance to support the provision of
maternal, newborn, child and SRH services and referral services being provided by 44 deployed
midwives implemented by Ethiopian midwives Association in 41 HFs, 9 different conflict and war
affected zones in Amhara region.

■ UNFPA continued the provision of financial and technical assistance to support the delivery of
maternal and SRH and PSS services being continuously provided by the MSI recruited static teams
operating staffs at 4 HFs and China IDP camp in six zones.

■ UNFPA started the provision of maternal, SRH and GBV and nutrition response at West Gondar
zone, Kumer camp) to reinforce the humanitarian responses at Sudan crisis through deployment of
one mobile health team comprising, GP, Midwives, clinical nurse, senior protection officer, and
response officer and over all coordinator through UNFPA Implementing partner- Medical team

Afro Ethiopian Integrated Development (AEID)

■ Construction of 3 blocks of Emergency Inclusive Latrines (each with 5 stances for


latrine and a shower room) at Bezawit Mariam Church, Abay Health centre and Abune
Gebremenfes Kidus Church are going on

■ Daily Water quality monitoring at Addisalem Hospital and Abunehara Dingil Church is
going on.
 There is Zero FRC (Free Residual Chlorine) below the WHO standard (0.5-1 FRC) at
Addis Alem Hospital CTC due to long time storage of water in flexible water storage
tank and exposed for direct sun light.

■ Rehabilitation of water scheme at Abune Hara Dingil Church is going on.

■ 1 drum HTH Chlorine is provided for Bahir Dar Town Water Utility

■ 11 cleaning campaign conducted & 935 Participants participated on it.

■ 6,916 individuals attended health education at Midre Genet, Maraki,


Teyima, Abay ras, A/Gebremenfes Kidus church, Shimbt Health
Center, Andasa, A/Hara Church, D/Tsion Laguna and Betemariam

■ on job training provided for 30 Hygiene Promoters of Andasa and


Betemariam kebeles in Bahir Dar City and Surrounding areas.

JSI

■ Provide Cholera Case Management training for 25 (8 females) Health Workers for cholera
affected woredas from North Wollo & South Wollo Zones. (Utilized finance 311,700 ETB).

■ Provide one day orientation on Oral Cholera vaccination (OCV) for 25 (3 females) participants
from North Wollo Zone, Raya Alamata & Kobo Towns. (Utilized finance 78,570 ETB).

■ Provide support for North Wollo ZHDs, Raya Alamata & Kobo Town during oral cholera
Vaccination (OCV) campaign through covering perdiam costs of 4 teams (20 people who are
vaccinators/supervisors & campaign coordinators). (Utilized finance 120,000 ETB).

■ Provide 5 days Sexual & Gender-based Violence (SGBV) training for 25 (7 female) health care
provide in conflict affected one stop centers and hospitals from E/Gojjam, W/Gojjam, N/Gojjam,
Awi, South Gondar & C/Gondar Zones. (Utilized finance 288,750 ETB).

Action Against Hunger (AAH)

 One Pipeline expansion with sanitary installation work was


completed at Gasay kebele and Deramo HC of farta woreda, South
Gondar.
 BOQ and Design of 21 water schemes and 6 VIP Latrines
construction was completed at Sekota, Abergele, Gazgibla, and
Tsagbji woredas.

 Rehabilitation of four water points were completed at Aberigelle woreda

 Rehabilitation of Shallow well at Neraku HC of Abergellie woreda which

includes ROTO installation (2000 lit).

 Rehabilitation of two shallow wells and one(1) Hand Dug well at beleka

kebele, Tsagibji woreda

Gaps and challenges
EPSS hubs lack adequate line items to do breakdown to IDPs sites

Shortage of Essential & Vital pharmaceuticals at RHB, ZHD, Woreda & HFs for
Public health Emergencies in the Region.

Zonal &Woreda officers unable to physical support in collective sites in Kalu,


Gubalafto, Ephirata, Minjar, Atsokiya

Shortage of anti malaria commodities (RDT,Coartem,Chloroquine) in Andabet, Estai,


Basoliben, Simada and Debre Alia Woredas
